Tangerang, 24 February2025 – As part of the national banking industry, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) remains committed to providing financial solutions for all its customers, including the MSME merchant. This commitment is realized through continuous innovation, from simplifying MSME onboarding, offering seamless payment platforms, to digitizing MSME operations.
During a talk show session at BCA Expoversary 2025 mini studio on Friday (21/2), BCA Acquisition & Business Partnership VP Liyanni Lie explained that the digital transformation of MSME merchants has accelerated significantly following the COVID-19 pandemic. This is evidenced by the significant increase in QRIS transactions among merchant partners.
“We recorded a twofold increase in QRIS transaction value, with transaction frequency growing by over 112% year-on-year (YoY) throughout 2024. The shift of MSME merchants to digital payments is driven by the need to overcome challenges associated with cash transactions, such as calculation errors and counterfeit money. At the same time, BCA remains fully committed to supporting regulatory and government initiatives to accelerate payment system digitization in Indonesia. We continue to expand access to static and dynamic QRIS through hundreds of thousands of EDC machines provided to our merchant partners,” said Liyanni Lie.
BCA is also committed to making it easier for merchant partners to onboard and apply for QRIS and EDC. One example of this commitment is the launch of the BCA Merchant application at the beginning of 2024. This application is specifically designed for merchant partners, among other things, to simplify financial transactions, increase operational efficiency, and serve as a channel for providing information and solutions. By utilizing the BCA Merchant app, merchants can apply for QRIS transaction devices and EDC machines.
“With applications through the BCA Merchant app, customers can now obtain QRIS on the same day if the application is submitted in the morning. For EDC machines, they can be obtained 2-3 days after application, depending on the merchant’s location. This is thanks to BCA’s distribution center network spread across various strategic locations. Applying for both devices is also easy, just a click away on the BCA Merchant app,” explained Liyanni Lie.
As of January 2025, BCA has recorded positive growth in merchant acquisition through the BCA Merchant app. Currently, there are more than 275,000 active merchants utilizing the BCA Merchant app. In 2024, out of 380,000 new merchants in the individual business segment acquired by BCA, around 75% have utilized the BCA Merchant app for easy registration.
BCA’s EDC machines are also continually adapted to the needs of MSMEs. Most recently, BCA introduced aposBCA, an Android-based EDC machine designed to enhance flexibility and convenience for merchants with high mobility. With an intuitive touch screen, aposBCA enables faster and more comfortable transactions, supporting various non-cash payment methods, including cards and QRIS, as well as contactless payments, and is equipped with SIM card and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Moving forward, BCA is committed to providing support to MSMEs to scale up their businesses, no longer focusing solely on payment systems. This effort is carried out through collaboration with several fintech companies providing point-of-sale (POS) platforms. The collaboration will involve integrating BCA’s payment system with POS device functions that offer transaction management and financial reporting systems.
“In the process of scaling up their businesses, MSMEs need more than just digital payment solutions. We call this beyond payment. BCA will continue to innovate and refine digital solutions to facilitate end-to-end MSME business operations. With this commitment, we hope more MSMEs can benefit from the integration of fintech and banking ecosystems, which in turn will positively impact their business growth,” concluded Liyanni Lie.
