Yogyakarta, 2 August 2025 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community empowerment through the development of the Rumah Pangan Hidup (RPH) program in the Wirawisata Goa Pindul, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, on Friday (1/8). This program is part of the initiative under the Bakti BCA aimed at empowering and improving the well-being of rural communities.
Since 2024, Bakti BCA has initiated RPH in Wirawisata Goa Pindul to increase household savings through community-based programs oriented towards family food security. With savings on vegetables and other foodstuffs, the community’s budget can be allocated to meet other basic needs, such as education, health, or other productive purchases.
Utilizing yard space and village areas, RPH focuses on family food security, as well as environmental conservation measures. The community empowerment initiatives carried out by Bakti BCA on an ongoing basis include strengthening the capacity of local communities, establishing management structures, institutional frameworks, and integrating RPH with the village’s tourism potential. Additionally, the program implements a circular economy approach to manage waste as a productive resource.
BCA Director Antonius Widodo stated, “Rumah Pangan Hidup is a concrete step toward fulfilling our commitment to supporting the empowerment of tourism villages and the application of circular economy principles. We hope that this program will not only have a social impact on food self-sufficiency in Wirawisata Goa Pindul, but also drive sustainable local economic growth.”
To support the sustainability of the program, Bakti BCA also provides guidance on the cultivation of vegetables, tubers, fruits, fish, and chickens, supports institutional development and the formation of management, provides financial management training, and provides infrastructure support in the form of a “Seed House” that is used as a nursery and seed garden. This assistance not only serves as a means of plant propagation but also as an educational and conservation tool supporting agriculture-based tourism activities. This facility is expected to enhance the productivity of the supported groups and expand the program’s benefits to reach a broader community.
In addition to Wirawisata Goa Pindul, Bakti BCA has also implemented the Rumah Pangan Hidup program in three other BCA-supported villages: Kampung Adat Nagari Sijunjung (West Sumatra), Limbongan Tourism Village (Bangka Belitung), and Bilebante Green Tourism Village (West Nusa Tenggara). The community managing the Rumah Pangan Hidup receives training using the Field School method, which consists of 19 modules, and is trained by facilitators with direct supervision (live-in) for 10 months.
Throughout 2024, the Sekolah Lapangan program was attended by 110 participants and had an impact on more than 300 beneficiaries, 78% of whom were women. Through this program, the residents of Desa Bakti BCA planted 50,581 plant seedlings and obtained a harvest equivalent to Rp86,6 million, or 50% of the vegetable expenditure budget. Not only that, the program also successfully reduced village waste by managing 66,8 tons of organic waste and 814,8 kg of inorganic waste into planting media and natural fertilizer.
“We observe significant potential for developing Wirawisata Goa Pindul as a sustainable tourism destination. This program combines cross-sector collaboration between food security, environmental conservation, and tourism. Rumah Pangan Hidup not only addresses the challenges of sustainability for the Goa Pindul community but also opens up opportunities for new economic growth, including educational tourism and agrotourism that can strengthen the village ecosystem,” said EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility BCA Hera F. Haryn.
In addition to Rumah Pangan Hidup, BCA has also supported various community empowerment initiatives under Desa Bakti BCA. Among these are the mentoring of six tourist villages under its care, which went on to win a prestigious award at the ASEAN Tourism Awards (ATA) 2025, and the mentoring of Desa Bakti BCA in its mission to expand market access to international markets at the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin 2025. Furthermore, BCA actively supports the expansion of market access for Desa Bakti BCA through various activities and collaborations, such as BCA Expoversary 2025, Jakarta Fair Kemayoran 2025, and collaborations between silver artisans from Taro and Tulola tourist villages.
