Surabaya, 3 September 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) presents the first UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024 Workshop in Surabaya. This workshop in Surabaya follows similar programs previously held in Malang and Bandung, a few weeks ago. BCA collaborates with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Indonesia to provide a platform for MSME owners from across regions to master strategies to penetrate international markets.
A total of 21 MSMEs participated in the workshop held at Fairfield by Marriott, Surabaya, September 3-7, 2024. The opening of the UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024 Surabaya Workshop was attended by BCA Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility EVP Hera F. Haryn, Head of BCA Region III Hendrik Sia, and OJK Director of Financial Literacy and Inclusion Horas V. M. Tarihoran.
This workshop is part of the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program, which began on August 21 in Malang. Participants will follow a tailored curriculum designed to address the specific needs and challenges of exporting, similar to a business incubator program. The curriculum includes:
- introduction to international trade transactions,
- improvement of product quality, packaging, and branding, and
- training in financial report preparation.
BCA Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility EVP Hera F. Haryn explained, “BCA believes that advancing MSME development necessitates collaboration among various stakeholders, especially in guiding businesses toward export orientation. To this end, we are partnering with ICC Indonesia to help MSMEs explore export opportunities through the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program. We are featuring a team of skilled facilitators who will motivate and inspire participants to enter the export market. We aim to enable 60 MSMEs from diverse regions to export following this training successfully.”
MSMEs play a crucial role in the Indonesian economy, contributing 61% of the gross domestic product (GDP), or approximately IDR 9,580 trillion. By 2023, MSMEs also employ around 117 million people, representing 97% of the total workforce. Additionally, this sector holds significant potential for national export growth, accounting for approximately 16% of total exports.
Enhancing support for MSMEs is essential to increasing their contribution to national export value. Through the Bakti BCA sustainable development program, the bank seeks to MSMEs identify export opportunities and facilitate their shipments abroad.
Beyond training, participants in the UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024 program will benefit from BCA and ICC Indonesia’s support in accessing international markets. This includes opportunities to showcase their products at major events like Trade Expo Indonesia and expert guidance throughout the transaction process with international buyers.
Bakti BCA has been running the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program since 2023. In 2024, Bakti BCA expanded the scope of the program to 3 new cities, including Malang, Bandung, and Surabaya. From the implementation in Yogyakarta and Semarang in 2023, BCA successfully guided 2 participating MSMEs to export.
After successfully assisting Wastraloka with exporting its flagship product to an Asian country in 2023, Bakti BCA also assisted Prospero Food Realcho in shipping cocoa powder products in two containers with a total of 34 metric tons and a transaction value of US$57,800 (around Rp907 million), last August.
BCA’s ongoing support for MSME players is also reflected in the organization of halal certification workshops, which facilitated the issuance of 1,000 halal certificates throughout 2023. BCA further strives to ease MSME access to potential markets through various events that connect MSMEs with prospective buyers. Most recently, BCA hosted BCA UMKM Fest 2024, featuring over 1,200 MSMEs showcasing their flagship products.
