Empowering MSMEs to Go International: BCA and the Indonesian Ministry of Trade Hold Export Trade Training in Yogyakarta and Semarang

Semarang, 11 September 2023 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) and the Indonesian Ministry of Trade are expanding their collaboration to promote the growth and development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. On this occasion, their partnership is being realized through conducting training sessions aimed at preparing these MSMEs for export in two cities, Semarang and Yogyakarta.

The training, conducted from 11 to 13 September 2023, was facilitated by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade's Export and Trade Services Human Resources Training Center (PPEJP) and received full support from BCA. In total, 60 MSMEs participated in the training in Yogyakarta and Semarang. The training covered a range of topics aimed at preparing MSMEs to promote their products on the international stage, including product quality improvement, identifying potential export markets, understanding export access, simulating foreign transactions, and developing promotional strategies.

"BCA's contribution in today's training demonstrates the company's commitment to the growth and development of Indonesian MSMEs. We believe that the success of MSMEs requires support from all parties, so BCA is committed to always assisting MSMEs in improving their performance. With this training, we hope that more MSMEs will be able to engage in exports and participate in the global supply chain, thereby contributing to the country's foreign exchange reserves and boosting national economic growth," explained BCA Director John Kosasih.

MSMEs stands as a cornerstone of the national economy. According to information provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM), MSMEs make up an approximate 60.5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provide employment for nearly 97% of the entire national workforce. According to data from Kemenkop UKM, MSMEs' participation in the global value chain stands at approximately 4%, highlighting untapped potential for the growth of MSMEs, particularly in fostering export activities.

"Recognizing the significant role of MSMEs in the national economy, we feel highly motivated to consistently provide support to Indonesian MSME entrepreneurs in unlocking their potential, including expanding market access, both at the national and international levels. We are very excited to see the positive impact of this training, and I am optimistic that domestic MSMEs will become stronger and more competitive in the global market," added John Kosasih.

As a matter of information, BCA's dedication to assisting MSMEs is clearly demonstrated by the significant rise in MSME financing, which increased by 16.5% year-on-year, reaching IDR 109.8 trillion as of June 2023. Furthermore, BCA successfully organized the BCA UMKM Fest 2023 in mid-August 2023, marking the event's third edition since 2021. This year's event was conducted both online and offline, attracting the participation of approximately 1,400 MSMEs showcasing their flagship products.

BCA has also launched the BCA #BanggaLokal program since November 2020. BCA supports selected local businesses by increasing awareness, facilitating transactions, providing opportunities for working capital financing, and assisting in the development of new products. As of June 2023, over 1,900 local businesses are actively participating in the #BanggaLokal program.

Out of the 60 MSMEs in Semarang and Yogyakarta who took part in the training, several were from tourism villages supported by Bakti BCA, specifically Doesoen Kopi Sirap and Kampung Batik Gemah Sumilir. Under Bakti BCA's CSR program, the company consistently offers continuous guidance to 15 supported tourism villages, including destination management, environment, arts, culture, and economy.

"I hope that this training will have a positive influence on all MSMEs, including those from tourism villages supported by Bakti BCA. BCA will consistently monitor the outcomes of this training and continue to support the MSMEs in these tourism villages until they can independently engage in exports. I am confident that this effort will provide great benefits, especially for the economy and welfare of village communities," concluded BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn.
