Malang, July 24, 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) held a workshop and facilitated the issuance of halal certificates for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malang, East Java. The activity, which was attended by more than 120 MSME players, took place at Savana Hotel & Convention, Malang, Wednesday (24/7).
The workshop was held as part of BCA's commitment to supporting the halal economy. Through this workshop, MSME players are expected to improve the quality of their products so that they can “upgrade” and develop their business scale. Along with Malang, BCA also held similar workshops in several cities in East Java, namely Madiun, Gresik, and Surabaya.
On the same occasion, BCA also distributed a People's Business Credit (KUR) worth Rp500 million to one of the debtors in the food business. The KUR handover was carried out by the Head of Region VII BCA Malang Office Hianni and Expert Staff of Malang Mayor Alie Mulyanto to the debtor. As of May 2024, BCA has disbursed Rp382 billion worth of KUR, growing 57.6% on an annual basis. BCA targets KUR distribution to reach Rp800 billion, up 11% YoY throughout 2024.
Head of Regional Office VII BCA Malang Hianni said, “MSMEs are important actors in supporting economic growth. This halal certification and certificate issuance workshop is a manifestation of BCA's commitment to encourage local MSMEs to upscale their business by providing access and understanding of halal certification in the self-declared category. We hope that MSME players can take advantage of this opportunity to improve product quality, business scale, and understand the importance of implementing halal standards in making products and services.”
BCA provides support for payment of halal certification fees for MSME players, and other attractive offers such as online account opening, online BCA credit card creation, activation of payment methods via QRIS, as well as business financing facilities (KUR) and other consumptive products.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the average turnover of businesses increased by 8.5% after obtaining a halal certificate. This is due to the high interest of Indonesians in halal-certified products. With this in mind, BCA is committed to continuing the halal certification program for MSMEs.
BCA's halal certification program in 2024 will focus on acquisition, which will continue with the issuance of halal certificates for 2,000 MSMEs in various regions. In 2023, BCA conducted workshops and assisted in the issuance of 1,000 halal certificates for MSMEs in 10 cities/regencies in 9 provinces. The MSME training participants were predominantly women. The action placed BCA as the second-ranked national institution with the most halal certificate quota in 2023.
“BCA's spirit to continue supporting the development of MSMEs and the halal economy in Indonesia will continue. We hope that this spirit can also inspire you to develop your business and strengthen the capacity of MSMEs in a sustainable manner so that they can excel in domestic and foreign markets,” said Hianni.
BCA's support for MSMEs is also reflected in MSME lending, which grew 12.1% YoY to reach Rp117.7 trillion as of March 2024. In order to continue encouraging lending to this sector, BCA provides promo lending rates for commercial and MSME debtors engaged in Environmentally Sound Business Activities.
