Jakarta, 5 July 2021 – The “Study From Home” policy, which once again implemented 100% for all students, has become a special concentration for both the parents and educators. As an inseparable part of Indonesian people, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to provide an added value for all parts of society. This time, BCA’s commitment to society is shown by organizing a national online literacy and numeration competition in cooperation with PesonaEdu.
The press conference for the national online literacy and numeration competition, which is done virtually, is attended by the EVP of CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati, Director of PesonaEdu Ira Anindita, Director of Junior High School, Director General of Pre-school Education of Elementary and Middle Education Drs. Mulyatsyah, MM and the Head of National Achievement Center Asep Sukmayadi, S.IP., M.Si on Monday (05/07). This event is also attended by 30 representatives from schools participating in the competition.
This year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has issued a policy of National Assessment using Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) instrument, character survey, and learning environment survey to assess the quality of education unit based on the student’s learning result which includes literacy, numeration, and character. This AKM instrument also serves as an information source to map and evaluate the quality of education system based on two types of literacy, i.e. reading and numeration literacy. This policy is an effort to improve the High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) ability among Indonesian student in order to be able to compete with students from other countries who have already applied HOTS based learning system.
Such effort was undertaken by the government by looking at the result of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 which was issued on March 2019, where it showed that the Indonesian’s reading, science, and mathematic abilities were ranked 74 out of 79 countries. During the period of 2009-2015, Indonesia was ranked among the lowest 10 according to data from OECD.
Inge Setiawati as the EVP of CSR of BCA said, “In this pandemic, which has occurred for over a year, encouragement and breakthrough for Indonesian students are necessary to improve the quality of education. One of the measures that can be taken is through competition which could reinvigorate the learning spirit of the students. BCA shall continue its commitment to contribute by providing positive impact and supporting Indonesian education system through Bakti BCA,”
“With the National Literacy Numeration Competition 2021, it is hoped that students continue to be successful during pandemic, and it is also serves an early preparation to face the National Assessment which will be held on September-October 2021. The result of this Literacy Numeration Competition can also be used by school to assess their students’ abilities, especially on the field of literacy and numeration”, said Ira Anindita, the Director of PesonaEdu.
PesonaEdu and Bakti BCA are fully aware that in improving the quality of Indonesian education, support from the entirety of Indonesian people plays an important role as “Indonesia Incorporated” component, and it is not the sole responsibility of the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
“This competition teaches the students to work, which is part of the effort to improve oneself. It is also part of how we motivate Indonesian children, especially those in elementary and junior high schools. Thus, with this activity, we continue to perform the learning activities while facing the pandemic” said Mulyatsyah, the Head of National Achievement Center.
This spirit is shown in “Online National Literacy and Numeration Competition for Elementary and Junior High School Students” using questions based on National Minimum Competence Assessment (AKM) standard. The event is part of PesonaEdu’s Challenge and Partnership (PECP) 2011 which is organized by PesonaEdu and Bakti BCA, and is supported by the National Achievement Center and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
This Literacy Numeration Competition is fully online with Computer Based Test (CBT) using PesonaEdu’s A-Class platform. Questions given in this competition including the mastery of basic literacy and numeration, which is not limited to certain subjects. Those questions are based on the AKM standard augmented with HOTS, with various types of questions, ranging from Complex Multiple Choices, Multiple Choices, Matching Answers, Respond to Video and Audio, Essay, and Virtual Practice.
“This competition aimed to understand and to test Indonesian children in order to improve their basic literacy and numeration skill as well as to build creativity and imagination. It is hoped that with this competition, Indonesian children will have the opportunity to continue to develop their learning passion which will be useful for their future” said Asep Sukmayadi, the Head of National Achievement Center.
“We wish that through this competition, the students will remain passionate in continuing their education despite the current limitations, especially since this is organized for nation-wide. We believe that Indonesian students have a large potential as the next generation of this nation,” said Inge.
