Optimism as Business Momentum Returns


Jakarta, 26 January 2023 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (IDX: BBCA) and its subsidiaries closed the 2022 financial year with total loan growth of 11.7% YoY, in line with a broad recovery across all loan segments. Our business expansion on the hybrid ecosystem, tapping both online and offline platforms, propelled transaction frequency to hit all time high. This achievement supported a 10.6% YoY growth in current accounts and savings accounts (CASA). All in all, BCA and its subsidiaries posted a net profit of Rp40.7 trillion in 2022, up 29.6% YoY.

We witnessed growth momentum in the Indonesian economy amid the global economic uncertainty and challenges. Taking part to spur the country’s business momentum, we hosted various strategic events, including two BCA Expos, BCA UMKM Fest 2022, and BCA Wealth Summit 2022. These efforts contributed to the Bank’s performance as evidenced by an increased mortgage portfolio, exceeding Rp108 trillion for the first time,” said President Director of PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, Jahja Setiaatmadja.

Throughout 2022, BCA saw a stronger recovery in loan demand compared to the previous year. Corporate loans increased 12.5% YoY to Rp322.2 trillion, while commercial and SME loans grew 10.1% YoY to Rp210.2 trillion. On the consumer lending side, new mortgage disbursement exceeded the pre-pandemic level, supported by the two expos in 2022. Mortgages rose 11.0% YoY to Rp108.3 trillion. Vehicle loans increased 13.6% YoY to Rp46.1 trillion, rebounding from negative growth in the previous year, while credit card outstanding grew 13.4% YoY to Rp13.8 trillion in line with the increase in customer activities. Total consumer loans increased 11.7% YoY to Rp171.3 trillion. Overall, BCA's total loans rose by 11.7% YoY to Rp711.3 trillion in December 2022, higher than the target of 8%-10% growth.

With respect to sustainable financing, BCA’s portfolio grew by 14.9% YoY, reaching Rp183.2 trillion in December 2022, or accounting for 25.4% of BCA's total loans. In support of the circular economy, BCA promotes waste management program that includes recycling non-organic waste, such as papers, damaged ATM cartridges, and old employee uniforms. These initiatives delivered a total of 518 tons of recycled waste throughout 2022.

"We are committed to supporting the government in achieving Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our waste management initiative potentially reduced CO2 emissions by 348.9 tons in 2022, or equal to preserving more than 29,000 trees. To create greater positive value, we involved local communities and MSMEs in the recycling process. Yayasan Bakti BCA manages the proceeds from the waste management program to provide scholarships for those in need,” said Jahja Setiaatmadja.

Loan quality has been improving along with credit growth. Loan at Risk (LAR) ratio improved to 10.0% in 2022, from 14.6% in 2021. Third-party funds grew by 6.5% YoY to Rp1,040 trillion, supporting total asset growth of 7.0% YoY to Rp1,315 trillion. BCA promotes the concept of “hybrid banking” to serve diverse customer needs in both online and offline ecosystems. BCA collaborates with strategic partners to expand its business ecosystem while implementing continuous digital innovations and investments. Total transaction volume rose by 36.8% YoY to reach 24.1 billion transactions in 2022, in line with the increase in the number of customer accounts by 6.2 million to 34.7 million.

BCA added a number of features on myBCA to continuously increase transaction convenience, including transfer in foreign currencies, credit card inquiries, Flazz card top-up, and logins with biometric technology. These innovations further enrich myBCA services, following the earlier integration of the wealth management service apps (WELMA) and “Bayar dan Isi Ulang” features in the third quarter of 2022. myBCA is the next gen of BCA Mobile, designed to be an integrated service apps in the future. On the BCA Mobile channel, BCA recently launched the Indonesia– Thailand QR Cross-Border transactions feature. When visiting Thailand, customers can now easily use QRIS on BCA Mobile to make payments to Thai banks’ merchants that have been integrated with the QRIS network.

BCA consistently distributes scholarships for students in Indonesia as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). From 2009 to 2022, the total number of Bakti BCA Scholarship awardees reached nearly 7,000 in 18 State Universities. In support of the “Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia” movement, BCA is committed to developing the potential of 15 tourism villages and supporting ten villages under the Bakti BCA partnership program. Bakti BCA is also expanding its program to eastern Indonesia, providing training for 381 teachers in 75 schools in West Lombok, Kupang and Jayapura; and empowering 28 women weavers in Timor Tengah Selatan to use natural dyes. Supporting Indonesia’s startup community, Bakti BCA provides funding and assistance through the SYNRGY Accelerator program, which has successfully run five batches, graduating 72 startups, and creating more than ten business collaborations with BCA and its partners.
