Banyuwangi, 7 August 2026 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through its Creating Shared Value (CSV) umbrella program, Bakti BCA, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental preservation and biodiversity conservation in Indonesia. In collaboration with the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), BCA hosted a series of sea turtle conservation education sessions and hatchling release activities in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, on Wednesday (5/8).
Held in commemoration of the 24th National Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML-CFT) Movement, the event was attended by Deputy for Analysis and Examination at PPATK Danang Tri Hartono and Director of BCA Lianawaty Suwono. The activities took place across two locations: the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF) Secretariat and Villa So Long Beach.
The itinerary commenced with a tour of the Intan Ruang facility at the BSTF Secretariat to witness artificial incubator innovations designed for sea turtle conservation. Simultaneously, BCA conducted an environmental education session engaging approximately 100 students in Banyuwangi.
Students were introduced to the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems through interactive storytelling about sea turtle life cycles and practical habits for marine protection. Activities included coloring eco-friendly tote bags to promote single-use plastic reduction and participating in releasing hatchlings into their natural habitat.
Director of BCA Lianawaty Suwono stated that the collaboration with BSTF and PPATK highlights how environmental conservation demands consistency, synergy, and active participation across sectors—including corporations, local communities, government bodies, and the youth. BCA believes environmental initiatives yield a far greater impact when pursued collaboratively and sustainably.
"Through this established partnership, we not only support sea turtle conservation via innovation and research, but also empower the younger generation to recognize the vital importance of marine ecosystem balance and coastal preservation," said Lianawaty.
Echoing this commitment, EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility at BCA, Hera F. Haryn, noted that Bakti BCA's environmental preservation efforts have long been executed through various initiatives under the Bakti Lingkungan (Environmental Responsibility) pillar.
"This initiative is integral to BCA’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while generating meaningful social and environmental benefits for the Indonesian people. We hope this cross-sector collaboration continues to inspire the broader public to collectively safeguard Indonesia’s rich biodiversity," Hera stated.
The main highlight of the event was the release of 1,300 sea turtle hatchlings into their natural habitat at Villa So Long Beach. The released hatchlings were funded through the participation of BCA customers and visitors during BCA Expoversary 2026 under the '10 Bottles for 1 Egg' initiative, where every 10 collected used plastic bottles were converted into funding to rescue one sea turtle egg.
On the same occasion, BCA and PPATK officially handed over an Intan Box unit to the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF). The Intan Box will be deployed by BSTF across other conservation sites facing similar ecological challenges, allowing the innovation developed in Banyuwangi to be replicated for broader environmental benefits.
As a tangible follow-up to the educational session, BCA donated three units of segregated waste bins to two participating schools: SDN 1 Lateng and SDN Kepatihan. Crafted from recycled tin cans, these waste bins aim to promote waste sorting habits in schools while demonstrating how recycled materials can be repurposed into valuable items.
"This campaign encourages the public to collect 10 plastic bottles to contribute toward releasing one sea turtle hatchling, designed to reduce plastic waste accumulation while cultivating public awareness for marine conservation," added Hera.
BCA has collaborated with BSTF since 2016 to support various sea turtle conservation programs, ranging from hatchling releases, nest relocations, sea pandan vegetation planting, and community education, to the technological development of sandless artificial incubators, namely Intan Box and Intan Ruang. To date, BCA through Bakti BCA has supported the release of more than 63,000 sea turtle hatchlings and the relocation of over 900 turtle egg nests across three conservation sites in Banyuwangi, Yogyakarta, and Bali.
