BCA Presents CELENGAN “Cerdas Kelola Keuangan” (Smart Financial Management) To Encourage Financial Literacy for Young Generations

Jakarta, August 12, 2021 – A young generation is the next generation of the nation that has a lot of potentials and needs to be supported and developed. However, these potentials must also be balanced with financial literacy skills. Based on data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in 2019, the financial literacy index reached 38.03% and the financial inclusion index was 76.19%. As a part of the national banking system, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) observes these conditions and participates to present program initiatives for the community.

To support this initiative, BCA presents various financial literacy programs for the young generation, one of which is CELENGAN “Cerdas Kelola Keuangan” (Smart Financial Management). This program is also a part of BCA's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for Indonesia. In line with the program, BCA distributed 500 Simpel accounts for students of SMAN 3 Serang while presenting a financial literacy webinar on Thursday (12/08). This activity was attended by Director of Financial Inclusion Development OJK Edwin Nurhadi, Head of Serang KCU Kusjanto Widjaja, BIC Consultant Feny K and Amarylisse Magnifizia Cesare Gans who are literacy ambassadors. It was also directly attended by the entire community of SMAN 3 Serang.

“The stigma that finance is a taboo subject for parents and children can now be overcome with various financial literacy programs. The importance of financial literacy education is necessary to be taught and provide an understanding of how to manage finances wisely and according to their objectives. BCA is present through the CELENGAN program, wanting to reach out to the entire community to further raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy,” said Kusjanto.

This program is a follow-up action to the OJK program, KEJAR “Satu Rekening Satu Pelajar” (One Student One Account). The concrete action taken by BCA in the submission of SIMPEL accounts to 500 students of SMAN 3 Serang is still a part of the BCA Assisted Schools program. The submission of these accounts is also an effort from BCA in increasing students' awareness to start a culture of saving money from an early age. This activity is also a support from BCA to achieve the target of the KEJAR program, i.e. achievement of 90% financial inclusion target by 2024.

Kusjanto Widjaja emphasized that "Getting used to saving money from an early age can provide many benefits, including educating students to learn discipline, forming a mindset to value money more, and avoiding consumptive behaviour," said Kusjanto Widjaja.

For information, the SIMPEL account distribution program for students under the auspices of BCA Assisted Schools was held some time ago. A number of schools that have received these accounts include 6 BCA Assisted Schools in Serang and Gunungkidul, i.e. SMAN 3 Serang City, SMPN 6 Serang City, SMPN 1 Karangmojo, SMPN 1 Semanu, SMPN 1 Ponjong and SMAN 1 Karangmojo.

Meanwhile, the SIMPEL account stands for Simpanan Pelajar (Student Savings). This product is a special savings product for Pre-school, Elementary School, Junior High School and Senior High School students as a learning tool to prepare for the future, as well as growing the habit of saving money from an early age.

“BCA constantly improves banking product innovations for people to manage finances more easily based on their needs. It is expected that this activity can improve financial literacy in the community, especially young generations. Hopefully, students who receive SIMPEL accounts can make good use of these accounts and become more familiar with the banking world," concluded Kusjanto.
