Jakarta, December 22, 2021 – The term 'Unsung Hero' has certainly been attached to all educators and educational figures in Indonesia for a long time. For that extent, the nation’s new generation has been born in various sectors that create a lot of innovations and ideas that we can be proud of. Based on these, appreciation and development programs for educators have become our responsibility to repay the knowledge they gave to us. Appreciation for educators is also one of the programs owned by PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BCA) under the auspices of Bakti BCA CSR. Since last September, BCA has held the SMART Teacher Award, which is a competition for educators in 20 BCA assisted schools.
The series of SMART Teacher activities present the SMART Teacher Competition program, inspirational webinar and today is the main event of the SMART Teacher Award followed by a webinar with the theme “Be Inspiring Teacher”. This activity is attended by BCA EVP of CSR Inge Setiawati, Director General of GTK Kemendikbud Iwan Syahril, Head of the Education Departments in the assisted schools area, author of the book "Character Excellence" and character development consultants Mr. Rizal Badudu, Mr. Sigit Suryono and Mrs. Mardiana Radjah who are outstanding teachers on Wednesday (22/12).
“The highest appreciation for educators is an expression of gratitude that we can offer sincerely after studying years ago. BCA that participates in the advancement of Indonesia's education also pays close attention to this matter through the Bakti BCA program. Today's activity is also a real effort we make to facilitate and motivate teachers in the midst of educational challenges during the pandemic," said Inge.
This activity also provides a way for teachers to sharpen their soft skills and improve their pedagogic abilities to generate creativity during the teaching and learning processes. It is essential because in the midst of the online learning challenges, students are required to have a higher focus and discipline to be able to absorb knowledge optimally. Therefore, the role of teachers becomes crucial and BCA understands the need for learning about such teaching method. The main objective of this training is to not only improve the teacher’s competence, but also to shape the students’ positive characters.
The series of programs are carried out in various phases of training aligned with the implementation of the SMART Teacher Competition event. The first phase with the theme “Becoming an Effective Blended Learning Teacher in the Age of Distance Learning” consists of four materials. Then, the second phase brings the theme "Teachers Soft Skills Training to Improve Learning Effectiveness". In addition to receiving materials, teachers receive assistance in the form of periodic coaching, write an essay on learning innovations during the pandemic to improve writing skills, and are assigned to share materials with other teachers and schools to expand the outcome of the training.
Meanwhile, the SMART Teacher Competition consists of several categories, such as: SMART Teacher Category, The Best Teacher Category, Inspirational Teacher Category, Exemplary Teacher Category, Innovative Teacher Category, and Most Improved Teacher Category. Not only that, the best school will receive donations of infrastructure to improve the quality of teaching. The highest category, 2021 SMART Teacher at the Elementary School level was won by Mrs. Khairul Ma'sumah from Kwangen Elementary, the Junior High School level was won by Mr. Iwan Muharji from Junior High School 1 Karangmojo and Mr. Zidiq Saifuddin from High School 3 Serang for the Senior High School level.
This activity also received support from the District and Provincial Education Department. The educators who take part in this activity are expected to spread the knowledge they get through this activity to other educators in other areas.
For information, the Bakti BCA Assisted School program provides training for teachers to increase their knowledge capacity in accordance with the needs and challenges of today's era, such as increasing knowledge about the curriculum, soft skills and hard skills in teaching to create a creative and effective learning atmosphere as well as mentoring programs to improve school performance. Until now, BCA has assisted 20 schools in Serang, Lampung, Gunungkidul and Banyuwangi.
“BCA is proud to be able to provide assistance for educators, especially for low technology areas. We definitely hope that this pandemic will end soon so that all activities can return to normal. Today's activity is expected to motivate educators to be more optimistic in performing existing learning methods," concluded Inge.
BCA gives appreciation to educators at the main event of the 2021 SMART Teacher Awards “Be Inspiring Teacher” – The prize handover procession was given virtually by BCA Executive President Corporate of Social Responsibility Inge Setiawati to the winners in the SMART Teacher category for Elementary, Junior High School and Senior High School levels from various regions of Bakti BCA assisted schools on Wednesday (22/12).
