Jakarta, 18 December 2025 - The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia announced the implementation of the Sustainable Tourism Village Certification program. In 2025, the Ministry partnered with PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) and successfully certified 10 tourism villages across Indonesia. This program reflects the government’s concrete commitment to advancing the development of high-quality, competitive, and sustainable tourism villages, and forms an integral part of Indonesia’s Sustainable Tourism Development framework.
The certification process is designed to assess and determine the quality, standard, and overall performance of tourism villages through an evaluation and audit mechanism based on sustainable tourism criteria and indicators, as mandated in the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Regulation No. 9 of 2021 on Sustainable Tourism Destination Guidelines.
The Sustainable Tourism Village Certification is conducted through an assessment process carried out by the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Council Product Certification Body (LS Pr-ISTC), an accredited certification body under the Ministry of Tourism. The selected tourism villages are classified as advanced or independent and have demonstrated achievements at the national and/or international level.
Four of ten tourism villages successfully obtained certification through the Ministry of Tourism’s program:
- Wanuerjo Tourism Village in Magelang Regency, Central Java;
- Krebet Tourism Village in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta;
- Les Tourism Village in Buleleng Regency, Bali; and
- Senaru Tourism Village in North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
Meanwhile, the remaining six tourism villages successfully obtained certification through BCA’s CSR program:
- Dayun Tourism Village in Siak Regency, Riau;
- Kreatif Terong Tourism Village in Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands;
- Tamansari Tourism Village in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java;
- Pentingsari Tourism Village in Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta;
- Taro Tourism Village in Gianyar Regency, Bali; and
- Bilebante Tourism Village in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
“The Sustainable Tourism Village Certification is an important step in elevating tourism villages across Indonesia, not only as leading destinations, but also as communities managed with strong commitment to environmental sustainability, cultural preservation, and local empowerment. We appreciate BCA’s partnership in advancing this certification program,” said Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia Widiawati Putri Wardhana.
The certification program is an integral part of the national sustainable tourism development strategy, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and tourism village development pillars: economic, socio-cultural, and environmental.
The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia expects that the growing number of certified tourism villages will foster a more inclusive tourism ecosystem, enhance global competitiveness, and deliver meaningful benefits to communities.
“BCA is committed to supporting the Ministry of Tourism in the implementation of the Sustainable Tourism Village Certification program. We believe this initiative represents an important step toward fostering inclusive and sustainable tourism. We are also grateful that six of the ten certified villages are part of Bakti BCA’s tourism villages. We hope the collaboration between the government and the private sector will deliver a positive impact on local economic development and contribute to improving the well-being of communities across Indonesia through tourism,” said BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono.
