BCA Holds Financial Literacy Education and Health Education To Support Early Childhood Education in Sorong

Sorong, 21 April 2017 - BCA has been a partner of UNICEF since the year of 2000. In the past three years, two UNICEF’s programs that have received funding support from BCA are Child Friendly Schools in Papua and Holistic Integrative Early Childhood Development in Papua. Financial Literacy Education is one of the BCA contributions outside the financial support of its core competence, which is through providing financial literacy education in the hope that students of elementary school would have a complete picture and knowledge of financial benefits.

Partnering with United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF), the event was held on Friday, 21 to 22 April and was attended by Director of BCA Rudy Susanto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) BCA Inge Setiawati, Head of BCA Regional Office IV Frengky Chandra Kusuma, and Senior Vice President of CSR BCA Sapto Rachmadi, as well as UNICEF Papua representative Franciscus Thio, Principal SD YPK Eben Haezer Klawana Yohan Manam, Principal of SD Negeri Inpres 26 Klamono Simon Lobat, Principal of TK Negeri Pembina Calasina Tomasoa, and Principal of PAUD Mawar Janiba Seseray.
“We thank UNICEF for the opportunity to engage with the elementary school students as one of the UNICEF top programs, the Holistic Integrative Early Childhood Development. BCA is certainly very supportive of this program because we believe that early childhood development is an essential foundation in realizing healthy, smart, happy Indonesian children with good moral compass,” said Rudy.

Rudi noted, “Financial literacy education is a government program supported by national banks including PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA). BCA shows its commitment in increasing financial literacy of Indonesian society by conducting financial literacy education for 103 elementary school students of SD YPK Eben Haezer Klawana, 185 elementary school students of SD Negeri Inpres 26 Klamono in Sorong, West Papua and 31 elementary school students of SD Negeri 12 Sorong Regency. BCA recognizes the need to instill financial management in early childhood. Students that have been educated about financial literacy early on will be more easier and get used to manage finances, including savings. The earlier they realize the benefits of saving habits, the greater the benefits for their future. It may seem simple, but it will be useful for the future.”
In addition to the financial literacy education program, BCA is donating a number of educational books, teaching manuals, educational aids as well as providing health education on the importance of handwashing for students. “Through these activities, we hope to contribute to building positive habits from an early age that we hope will benefit the future of the young generation,” said Rudi.
