“Education on financial literacy is necessary to educate children who are aware and understand about how to manage finances wisely and according to the needs. Such education should be provided as early as possible to the Indonesian children because a good money management habit will be beneficial in the future. We are grateful to be given a chance to interact and share with the students regarding the importance of developing positive habits at an early age, including saving money,” said Suwignyo.
The financial literacy education is presented in an enticing way according to the challenges learners face today. The students are invited to ‘play’ and enter the educational halls where they learn about finance, including the introduction of OJK (Financial Services Authority) & IJK (Financial Services Institute), the importance of savings, banking services, and investments. Here, students are encouraged to be proactive in reading, posing questions, and listening to stories. Students will also get the opportunity to watch wayang show titled Laku Bijak Resi Subali that tells a story about the importance of charity and saving money, performed beautifully by Dalang Sujiwo Tejo.
Furthermore, during the event, students can enjoy a variety of positive entertainment from Voice of Halo BCA, Education through OJK’s Financial Literacy Cars and various banking transaction services by LAKU BCA agents. Suwignyo added, “We are committed to care about the fate of Indonesian children, one of which is demonstrated by providing education on savings. BCA is aware that the habit of managing finances needs to be instilled at an early age in the hope that they’d become accustomed to and easier to manage finances, including savings. These activities are a form of BCA’s commitment to children development in Indonesia which we value essential in helping to realize Indonesia’s young generation who are smart, with great character and good moral values,” added Suwignyo.
Previously, BCA had supported the implementation of financial literacy programs to improve the index of financial literacy and inclusion of the Indonesian people, especially the students through savings product Simple (Simpanan Pelajar). Education and activation of Simpel was done at the venue, in Bandung. “In Indonesia, financial literacy education is rarely conducted, be it at home or school. Therefore, BCA will continue its efforts to improve the index of financial literacy in Indonesia, especially in regions with low financial literacy. Financial literacy education for children is not only about the introduction of money, but rather about a concept of introducing a responsible money management, and the ability to control financial expenses,” explained Cyrillus Harinowo, Independent Commissioner of BCA.
