BCA Gathers 200 Students to Explore About Orangutan through Student Goes to Nature 2025 Program

Samboja, September 23, 2025 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) through the Bakti BCA program once again collaborated with the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) to organize the Student Goes to Nature (SGTN) 2025 initiative. At least 200 junior and senior high school students from Samboja and West Samboja had the opportunity to learn directly at the BOSF Orangutan Conservation Area in Samboja Lestari, East Kalimantan, this year.

The program is part of BCA’s ongoing commitment which is aligned with one of Bakti BCA pillars, Bakti Lingkungan (Environment), aiming to raise awareness about the importance of preserving nature and protecting wildlife among youths. Through interactive field-based learning, students explored the orangutan’s vital role in the ecosystem while gaining a deeper understanding of the real challenges facing their habitat. As an umbrella species, orangutans help safeguard biodiversity in their environment. Conserving orangutans means protecting the entire ecosystem in which they live.

Not merely about conservation, the SGTN 2025 program also provided participants with financial literacy education. The material equips them with additional knowledge to better manage in their future sustainably. This initiative reflects BCA’s vision to deliver a holistic and concrete contribution to society.

The SGTN 2025 program was divided into five learning points: Makaka, Keruing, Durian, Orangutan, and Beruang Madu. Each point offered thematic activities such as tree planting, water filtration and waste decomposition demonstrations, as well as in-depth lessons on conserving Kalimantan’s endemic wildlife.

EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility at BCA, Hera F. Haryn said, “BCA believes that environmental awareness must be nurtured from an early age. Through the Student Goes to Nature program, we want to foster a sense of love and responsibility among youths for forest and wildlife conservation in a fun and easy-to-understand way. This initiative aligns with BCA’s commitment to support environmental sustainability, which ultimately sustains human life as well.”

Since 2012 to 2025, BCA and BOSF have supported the government regarding orangutan conservation, including:

  • Releasing 54 orangutans back into their natural habitat
  • Rehabilitating 57 orangutans
  • Planting 9.000 trees within BOS conservation areas
  • Educating 4.484 students on orangutan conservation
  • Raising public awareness through 2.060 special edition Flazz cards and LED-based conservation education during Orangutan Day on seven occasions
  • Improving four pre-release islands and renovating Sekolah Hutan

These sustainable efforts demonstrate BCA’s consistency in integrating sustainability values into its activities while inviting younger generations to take an active role in protecting Indonesia’s natural heritage.
