Advancing Sustainable Waste Management, BCA Expo 2025 Cuts Carbon Emissions by 18.1 Tons

Jakarta, 26 August 2025 – Lifestyle and environmental preservation can coexist, as demonstrated at the BCA Expo 2025 held at ICE BSD, Tangerang, from 22–24 August. Beyond helping people realize their dream homes and vehicles to become #JadiKejadian, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) also invited visitors to take part in various environmental initiatives during the event. These efforts reaffirm the company’s commitment to consistently prioritizing sustainable practices across all operational aspects.

At BCA Expo 2025, BCA, through Bakti BCA, specifically under the Bakti Lingkungan (environment) pillar, once again presents a Recycling Machine (Reverse Vending Machine/RVM) in collaboration with Plasticpay. By simply exchanging plastic bottle waste, customers and visitors at the BCA Expo 2025 have the opportunity to receive various attractive prizes. All collected bottles will then be recycled into eco-friendly fibers or raw materials for environmentally friendly products.

BCA Expo 2025 also served as a platform to introduce and promote the spirit of #BCAforSustainability to all visitors. This commitment was reflected in the presence of waste educators who actively raised awareness on the importance of waste management, as well as the provision of waste stations where visitors could sort their waste by type. From a total of 8.5 tons of waste collected at these stations, BCA Expo 2025 visitors helped reduce potential carbon emissions by 18.1 tons of CO2, equivalent to saving 26 m² of landfill space.

“Environmental preservation is a collective responsibility that must begin immediately. BCA views BCA Expo 2025 as the perfect opportunity to strengthen this awareness among both customers and visitors. Through various easy-to-follow initiatives, we aim to demonstrate that contributions to environmental preservation can be integrated into everyday life, from sorting waste to adopting eco-friendly habits,” stated BCA Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility EVP Hera F. Haryn.

BCA Expo 2025 also highlights leading products from villages and MSMEs assisted by Bakti BCA, Wastra Warna Alam textiles, creative works from Precious One, and local businesses from BCA Bangga Lokal. Their participation reflects BCA’s commitment to supporting the MSME ecosystem and advancing a sustainable economy in Indonesia.

BCA’s commitment to environmental sustainability has long been demonstrated through various Bakti BCA initiatives under the Bakti Lingkungan (environment) pillar. Most recently, in early August, BCA inaugurated the Sea Turtle Education Center and released hatchlings at Goa Cemara Beach, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), as part of its commitment to sea turtle conservation in Indonesian waters. Since 2016, BCA has also partnered with the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF) to support conservation efforts, including egg relocation, hatchling release, sea pandanus planting, and educational programs for the community and students. In 2024, a total of 17,531 eggs were successfully relocated from 171 nests, with 15,003 hatchlings released to their habitat. In addition, 273 students have been educated on the importance of biodiversity sustainability. In the same year, Bakti BCA supported BSTF in launching “Intan Ruang,” the first sand-free incubation device in Indonesia, with a capacity of 15,000 eggs.

Not only dedicated to maintaining the balance of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems, Bakti BCA rehabilitated 5 orangutans and released another five back into the wild in 2024. In collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry, BCA also supported efforts to monitor the Javan leopard population through the installation of surveillance cameras, genetic analysis, and public awareness campaigns. Additionally, Bakti BCA planted 51,500 trees across four strategic locations to restore degraded land. BCA also regularly monitors tree growth to ensure its environmental impact, working with expert partners to maintain data accuracy and credibility. In 2024, trees planted from 2021-2024 successfully absorbed 107.5 tons of CO₂e, with a survival rate of 91.7%.

“We believe that small, consistent steps can build good habits, which in turn create a significant impact on environmental sustainability,” concluded Hera.
