Supporting Quality Basic Education, BCA Holds Teacher Training

Jakarta, 31 August 2019 – In collaboration with PT Kuark International, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through the Bakti BCA program, organizes a teacher training for BCA’s assisted schools in order to prepare teachers in dealing with the 21st century learning and possible curriculum change. The training focuses on teacher’s capacity development, from which they will be able to devise learning experiences that is more interesting, more useful and provide value added to the development of students’ quality, intelligence, skills, and personality.

At the opening of the training program this year, Executive Vice President of CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati said that the education world demands for teachers, who are not only able to teach and manage a classroom, but also able to build an effective relationship with the students and school community by utilizing technology that supports the improvement of the quality of teaching as well as pursuing reflective practices and continuously improving learning practices.

Therefore, teachers are required to be skillful in designing teaching activities, building positive teacher-student relations, also with their fellow colleagues, and the whole web of relationships in a school community, and are able to integrate technology as a means to increase student interest in learning.

“The training is expected to encourage changes in the quality and ability of teachers, which in turn improves the quality of education at BCA’s assisted schools in Lampung, Serang, and Yogyakarta. One of the indicators of improved teacher quality is the realization of a conducive, fun learning environment that allow for improved students competency at the assisted schools,” said Inge.

This year, the training focuses on elementary school teachers in Serang, Lampung dan Yogyakarta. A total of 46 participants joins the training in Serang and Lampung, and 54 participants in Yogyakarta, totaling at 100 participants consisting of teachers and headmasters. As for Yogya, the XXI century teacher training was conducted intensively in blended learning for 1 year, with a composition of three training modules monitored by the Kuark and CSR team.

Inge added attention to schools is part of BCA’s efforts to help local communities develop. By aiming these schools, BCA hopes to see a positive change towards the future because students from these assisted schools would then have the ability and skills to assess, evaluate, and determine planning based on their comprehension and ability transferred from the teachers to them during the learning process at school.

On the occasion, the Bakti BCA also donated infrastructure facilities to three BCA’s assisted schools, namely SDN 1 Taktakan, SDN 2 Taktakan, and SDN 1 Gadingrejo, totaling more than Rp90 million.

“The sustainability of an empowerment program cannot be separated from efforts to pass down values and virtues as agents of change from an early age. This is what BCA is trying to do in its assisted schools today,” Inge concluded her remarks.
