Yogyakarta, August 1, 2025 – Pentingsari Tourism Village, located on the slopes of Mount Merapi, offers more than just beautiful scenery. The warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the locals also leaves a lasting impression on many tourists. Through the BCA Bakti program, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) supports the development of this village as part of its commitment to promoting community-based sustainable tourism.
Pentingsari Tourism Village was once an underdeveloped hamlet that depended on agriculture. Since it was developed into a tourism village in 2008, the potential for tourism and the local economy has grown. This has contributed to improving the standard of living of the local community.
BCA's support is not limited to the tourism sector, but also includes the development of local MSMEs. Various product quality improvement training programs have been conducted to help businesses deliver superior and competitive products. Additionally, BCA's Bakti program provides promotional opportunities for Pentingsari SMEs through participation in various events, enabling premium products such as mushroom chips, granola, and batik fabric to reach a broader market.
BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono stated, “BCA is here to support Pentingsari Tourism Village because we feel the positive spirit of the local community who want to become an independent village. In particular, we appreciate the commitment of the village officials who have worked hard to develop this village into a destination loved by both local and foreign tourists.”
Pentingsari Tourism Village promotes the theme of nature, culture, and environmentally-friendly agriculture. The village collaborates with Lava Tour Merapi to offer tourists the opportunity to witness the traces of Mount Merapi's eruption firsthand. In addition, the presence of homestays gives visitors the opportunity to stay under the same roof as the local community, while getting to know the daily life of the village through activities such as batik making, wayang suket (straw puppet) making, and farming.
Since officially becoming a BCA Bakti Village in 2014, the community of Pentingsari Tourism Village has received various training programs from BCA to improve the quality of tourism services. These include training for tour guides to provide informative and enjoyable tours for local and foreign tourists, training in homestay management to strengthen the hospitality skills of residents, and expansion of market access through the integration of tourism ticket sales into the lifestyle feature of the BCA mobile app.
To date, BCA's training program has reached more than 300 residents and involved 80 active homestays. These facilities have now become an attraction for tourists from various cities and countries.
The BCA Bakti Tourism Village Program is part of BCA's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of poverty alleviation, local economic development, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism. This initiative is also in line with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles that BCA implements on an ongoing basis.
Previously, BCA has also supported various community empowerment initiatives under the BCA Bakti Tourism Village program. These include assisting artisans in Taro Tourism Village to expand market access, as well as involving BCA-assisted tourism villages in the Wonderful Indonesia Travel Fair 2024. To date, six BCA-assisted tourism villages have won prestigious awards at the ASEAN Tourism Awards (ATA) 2025, namely: Nagari Sijunjung Traditional Village Tourism Village, Terong Creative Tourism Village, Semen Tourism Village, Taro Tourism Village, Glodok Chinatown Tourism Village, and Bilebante Green Tourism Village.
“We hope that BCA's collaboration with Pentingsari Tourism Village can serve as a concrete example of how synergy between the banking sector and local communities can drive sustainable development. Going forward, we will remain committed to assisting more villages in Indonesia in exploring their local potential and creating inclusive social impact,” said BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn.
Thanks to innovation, solid institutional governance, and collective cooperation, Pentingsari Tourism Village has become an inspiring model for other villages in developing tourism villages based on the principles of sustainability.
The head of Pentingsari Tourism Village Management, Ciptaningtias, said, “Pentingsari Tourism Village is clear evidence of the community’s hard work in sustaining and taking pride in our homeland. We believe that this village has a lot of natural, cultural, and traditional potential that tourists can enjoy. BCA's support through the Desa Bakti BCA program encourages us to continue improving the quality of our services and attract more tourists to visit. We are proud to be part of the Bakti BCA-assisted village."
