With the growing need for banking transactions, having more than one bank account has become more common. However, without realizing it, rarely used accounts can actually lead to issues. Under certain conditions, these accounts may become inactive or dormant, and may even be subject to automatic closure.
In accordance with POJK No. 24 of 2025, a “special” status is assigned to accounts that remain unused for a certain period, and the timeframe for automatic closure is also defined.
Accounts that remain unused for a certain period may be assigned “Inactive” or even “Dormant” status. This may affect the account, such as by limiting transactions, both outgoing and incoming.
In addition to account status, another important consideration is that accounts with a zero balance for a certain period may be subject to automatic closure.
Let’s take a closer look at account status, automatic closure, and how accounts can be kept active and usable.
Account Status (Active, Inactive, and Dormant)
Account status is determined by whether there is activity within a specific period. Learn more about account status classifications and how to reactivate accounts that are “Inactive” or “Dormant” below.
To ensure smooth banking activities, regular transactions and balance checks are recommended. These can be done through various BCA channels, such as myBCA app, BCA mobile, BCA Internet Banking, BCA ATMs, and others.
Please note that system-initiated debit transactions are not considered as activities that keep an account active, such as interest payments, tax deductions, administrative fees, autodebits, and others.
Zero Balance Accounts and Automatic Closure
Unlike account statuses, which are determined by transaction activity, automatic closure applies to accounts that maintain a zero balance for a certain period.
In accordance with POJK No. 24 of 2025, automatic account closure is applied to accounts with a zero balance for 6 (six) consecutive months. This applies to both main accounts and sub-accounts, such as Poket Rupiah and Poket Valas.
To prevent automatic closure, ensure that the account maintains a sufficient balance.
Excluded Accounts
The provisions regarding account status and automatic closure above apply to all types of BCA accounts, with the following exceptions:
- Tahapan Berjangka
- SimPel (Simpanan Pelajar)
- TabunganKu
- Customer Fund Account (RDN)
- BCA Lender Fund Account (RDL)
- Vostro Account
- Escrow Account
- Accounts under dispute
Note: Account closure for the BCA account types listed above follows the specific terms and conditions of each respective product.
With this understanding, it is important to keep accounts active. Maintaining regular transactions and a sufficient balance can help prevent accounts from being marked as “Inactive,” “Dormant,” or automatically closed.
