Bengkulu, 10 May 2018 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) is committed to improving the quality of life of Indonesian people especially in health. The commitment is implemented through the Bakti BCA program by organizing Free Cataract Surgery as one of BCA’s efforts to reduce blindness due to cataract. In collaboration with Cataract Blindness Eradication Unit of the Indonesian Opthalmologist Association (SPBK-Perdami), BCA organizes free cataract surgeries at Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) TAIS, Seluma District Bengkulu City on May 10th-12th, 2018.
Attending the Free Cataract Surgery program was Branch Chief Operating Officer (KOC) of KCU BCA Bengkulu Suryono Gunawan, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of BCA Rizali Zakaria, Chairman of Perdami South Sumatera Dr. dr. Ramzi Amin, Sp.M(K), Director of RSUD TAIS dr. Wiwin Herwini and Head of Health Office Seluma Mr. Chaidir Muchtar S. Sos. The cataract surgery conducted in Bengkulu is targeted to reach ±100 pasien.
“BCA noted that feasible health services that are accessible to all Indonesians still require special attention. This cataract surgery is a sustainable activity of BCA and we are working to reach people in various parts of Indonesia. We belive that cataracts can happen to anyone, not only our senior citizens and generally it can be treated with surgery,” explained Suryono.
BCA has been working with SPBK-Perdami since 2001. Throughout 2017, BCA has successfully facilitated 5 free cataract surgeries with a total of 610 patients. These free cataract surgeries were performed at RSUD Tangerang City, Luwu and East Luwu South Sulawesi, RSUD A Diponegoro Putussibau West Kalimantan, RSK Lindimara and RS Karitas Sumba NTT and RSUD Dr H Abdul Moeloek Lampung. In addition to organizing free cataract surgery, BCA also donated a unit of Phacoemulsification Cataract Machine Intuitiv AMO and three sets of support tools for cataract surgery to Perdami in previous November 2017. Not only that, in 2017, BCA had also participated in Fee Cataract Surgery organized by Kick Andy Foundation in December 2017 at Klinik Ume Manekan Soe East Nusa Tenggara, with a total of 109 patients. Previously, at the end of 2016, BCA had also submitted a donation of Rp500 million to SPBK Perdami in order to purchase two microscopes needed for free cataract surgery in various places in Indonesia. As of December 2016, BCA and SPBK had organized approximately 51 Free Cataract Surgeries in various regions in Indonesia
This year, BCA has also conducted free cataract surgeries in Eye Hospital Prima Vision Medan, RS AU Dr. M. Hassan Toto Lanud Atang Sendjaja Bogor and RS Columbia Asia Medan in last March. Not only concerned about the health, BCA also show its concern demonstrated through other social activities, including teacher seminars from 17 BCA foster schools, leadership training for Bakti BCA scholarship grantees, SME seminars, and various other social activities. “Health is an important aspect in improving the quality of life. Through this free cataract surgery, it is expected that people can recover and stay healthy and together build the potential of community assets together. Let us together build a community that is healthy and free from cataracts,” Suryono.
BCA Organizes Free Cataract Surgery in Bengkulu - BCA is partnering with SPBK Perdami as a profession organization for ophthalmologists organize free cataract surgeries in various places including Bengkulu in hope of reducing blindness due to cataract. The cataract surgery that was performed at Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) TAIS, Seluma District, Bengkulu City, was followed by approximately 100 patients.
