BCA Commitment To Support Orangutan’s Habitat Through Virtual “Viewing From Home”

Jakarta, 14 October 2021 – Preservation of environment can be reflected through harmonization of the species living in the ecosystem. One of such reflection is the the harmony between the flora and fauna living within it. PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) also takes part in preserving the environment through their Bakti BCA corporate social responsibility program. This commitment is manifested by supporting the preservation of orangutan’s habitat in cooperation with Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) since 2012.

BCA’s commitment to expand the education on orangutan’s habitat is shown through special LDR serial “Viewing From Home” (“Lihat Dari Rumah”) with the CEO of BOS Foundation Dr. Ir. Jamartin Sihite and BOSF Awareness Campaigner Richard Kyle. The virtual talkshow was streamed through Instagram account @goodlifebca and Youtube channel SolusiBCA on Thursday (14/10) 19.00 PM.

“Since 2012, BCA has been committed to save orangutan’s habitat, especially in Kalimantan. As we know, orangutan is one of the species that contribute greatly to the preservation of forest. Indonesia owns a large amount of orangutan’s habitat, amounting to 90%. Back in 2020, BCA had rehabilitated 31 orangutans in Kalimantan,” the EVP of CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati said.

The LDR show continues to spread awareness on the preservation of orangutan’s habitat even in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic. This action is important due to the dominant role of orangutan in the forest, such as opening forest canopy which allows seeds to sprout and aiding the forest regeneration. Because of this, BOSF and BCA never stop to promote the importance of orangutan rehabilitation and preservation of their habitat.

“BOSF cannot save orangutan and their habitat on our own. All of us, including other NGO for orangutan preservation, stakeholders in both central and regional government, private sector such as BCA, and even general public must work together in order to materialize the preservation of orangutan and to live together side by side.” Dr. Ir. Jamartin Sihite said.

Saving orangutan and their habitat is a task not only for BOSF, but also for us as the young generation. As humans, we may often caused the imbalance in nature, but we are also the last hope to restore the harmony of nature. The easiest step is to change our attitude towards nature and its surrounding, to commit ourselves to learn more about the risk to the wild animals and their habitat, and to reduce our carbon footprint to maintain a healthy earth. What we are doing right now will affect the future generations.

BCA’s support through Bakti BCA CSR program for the preservation and release of orangutan to the wild was also conducted in 2021, in which at least five orangutans have been returned to their habitat this year. In addition to support for orangutan, Bakti BCA was also involved in the environmental conservation, including preservation of 14,700 mangrove trees, 2,100 trees in peatland areas, release of 8,909 hatchlings, and development of 12 BCA-assisted villages to preserve and optimize their potential in a resilient, sustainable village economy.

This LDR virtual talkshow is an initiative of BCA in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic in order to urge the public to learn more about the natural riches of Indonesia through virtual streaming. Several major themes have been discussed in LDR, such as the BCA-assisted tourism villages and their tourism potential.

“It is hoped that this show will raise public awareness on the environment preservation, both for flora and fauna. It is our responsibility to protect this beautiful creation of the god,” said Inge.
