Having Insurance at a Young Age: Protect Yourself from Unexpected Risks

Most of the younger generation is familiar with the term YOLO (You Only Live Once), a carefree attitude toward living. They prefer to go traveling or attend concerts of their favourite musicians. However, Sastia Roria is different from most people of her age. At the age of 25, Sastia is determined to have insurance once she makes her own money. Her move was driven by the experience of people close to her who benefited from the insurance when having health problems.

“There’s an analogy I remember until now, ‘having insurance is like having a security guard that protects us.’ This is because illness is something one cannot predict. Once you fall sick, depending on the illness, it can cost tens of millions,” said Sastia, a market researcher at a global research company and content creator.

Therefore, at 23, when she started working, Sastia immediately decided to buy personal insurance, even though she was also covered by her office. She did not want to rely entirely on the company’s health insurance due to its limited coverage.

“As a youngster, whose income is not that big and whose funds are limited, having insurance protects our financial situation from various life risks such as sick, or unexpected life event such as accidents and many more. That’s why, while I am still young, as long as the premiums are affordable, it is essential to own personal insurance,” Sastia continued.

To realize her dream to have personal protection, Sastia chose the Maxi Protection product which payments can be directly debited from BCA savings. In addition to being simple and safe, the insurance also provides promos for Bank BCA customers.

“I happen to have several insurance agent friends from different companies. However, I decided to buy AIA products offered through BCA. Not only due to I have a long-time customer of BCA, but I was also interested in the promos offered at the time of purchase.  Besides that, I thought that purchasing through the bank was safer. For example, if the agent who handles me suddenly resigns, they would soon be replaced by another agent,” added Sastia.

The AIA Maxi Protection she chose was equipped with the Premier Hospital Surgical Plus and personal accident rider. Sastia experienced the benefits directly when she contracted COVID-19 in the mid of last year.

“I was in pretty bad shape. I had stomach problems and was diagnosed malnourished which required hospitalization. I spent almost 3 weeks in the hospital, which cost me around Rp92 million,” explained Sastia.

Sastia benefited from the AIA Maxi Protection that she acquired through the Bank BCA. In addition to get a private inpatient room (a private exclusive room, not shared with other patients) at the hospital, she also went through the entire administrative and treatment process without any problems. “I just showed my AIA card for hospital records. I didn’t need to do anything else afterward. When I checked out, I pay no bill. The transactions were seamless, there were no obstacles at all,” she explained.

If Sastia was only solely relied to health insurance from her employer, it would not have been that possible to get a considerable fully cover medical expenses.

Thanks to her insurance, Sastia can prepare for her plans, “I can’t work for a company forever. One day I might be opening my own business. So to prepare for that, to protect the future, it’s best to allocate funds for personal insurance from the start. Keep in mind that the longer you delay, the higher the premiums you have to pay!”

If you are interested in having health protection owned by Sastia, now there is a new similar insurance product, Maxi Protection Plus with the Premier Hospital & Surgical Extra rider.
