Jakarta, 12 October 2026 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through its Bakti BCA program, will once again hold a community service program (Baksos) for cataract surgery at Sayang Regional Hospital in Cianjur, West Java, on October 10, 2026. Targeting 261 cataract patients, this program demonstrates BCA's commitment to providing hope for cataract sufferers to improve their lives, including increasing their economic productivity.
In collaboration with the Cataract Blindness Management Department of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (DPBK PERDAMI), this event also commemorates World Sight Day 2026, which falls on October 8, 2026. BCA hopes that surgery will provide a solution for cataract sufferers to regain clear vision amidst the high number of cases of blindness caused by this disorder.
BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn Hera stated that BCA believes that access to quality healthcare is a crucial part of creating a better life. She also expressed her appreciation for the collaboration with PERDAMI, local governments, and all parties supporting this program.
"BCA believes that health is a crucial aspect in improving quality of life and opening up opportunities for people to continue working. Through Bakti BCA, we are committed to continuously providing benefits to the community, one of which is through the cataract surgery program, which has been running since 2001 and has reached more than 10,000 beneficiaries across Indonesia," Hera said.
Referring to the results of the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) survey conducted from 2014 to 2016, cataracts account for 71.7% of blindness in West Java. To address this need, BCA is targeting cataract sufferers in Cianjur, one of the largest areas in West Java, particularly those around Sayang Regional Hospital.
Sayang Regional Hospital is not a new location for BCA's Cataract Surgery Social Service program. On October 26, 2024, a similar community service program at this hospital served 333 patients, the highest number in a single event in the past three years. BCA's presence in Cianjur continues this effort to reach a wider audience experiencing visual impairment due to cataracts.
As of September 2026, the Cataract Surgery Community Service program has implemented 106 activities across Indonesia, benefiting a total of 10,142 patients. From North Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, West Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, and West Papua, BCA has supported the strengthening of DPBK Perdami's medical facilities and equipment, as well as improving cataract surgery services.
"For adults, having healthy eyes can support increased productivity and improve the family's economic situation. Meanwhile, for children, this surgery will help them learn more optimally, enabling them to achieve outstanding academic success," Hera concluded.
