Jakarta, 25 September 2026 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through its Creating Shared Value (CSV) program Bakti BCA, has once again expanded access to eye care for the younger generation through the “Mata Cemerlang, Prestasi Gemilang” program. As part of this program, BCA conducted eye examinations and early detection of vision problems among students, culminating in a ceremony to distribute eyeglasses to the students.
The ceremony to present eyeglasses to the beneficiary students was held on Untung Jawa Island, Thousand Islands, on Friday (25/9). The event was attended by Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno, BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono, BCA EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn, as well as representatives from the Jakarta Provincial Government, local government officials, and representatives of the beneficiary students and schools.
Since early April 2026, BCA has been conducting eye examinations and early detection of vision impairments at 16 schools in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, with a total of more than 3,500 students having received eye examinations. Of that number, approximately 1,000 students were identified as having vision impairments and received follow-up care as needed, including corrective eyeglasses and eye vitamins.
This aligns with data from the Ministry of Health, which notes that approximately 3.6 million Indonesian children still have untreated refractive errors that require corrective eyewear. This condition has the potential to hinder children’s growth, development, and quality of life.
Rano Karno expressed his appreciation to BCA for organizing the “Bright Eyes, Brilliant Achievements” program. He also highlighted the current habit among children of frequently using electronic devices beyond recommended time limits. As a result, the risk of children developing vision problems may increase.
“On behalf of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, I would like to thank BCA for donating eyeglasses to our children. My message to the children is this: you need to be disciplined when using cell phones and computers because sometimes we don’t realize we’ve been using them for too long, and this can harm your eye health,” said Rano Karno.
On the same occasion, Antonius Widodo Mulyono added that this program is part of Bakti BCA’s commitment to supporting improvements in public health, particularly among students. According to him, early detection of vision problems should focus on children as Indonesia’s future generation.
“Eye health has now become one of the critical challenges that requires our collective attention. We hope that early screenings and the provision of corrective eyewear can help students see better, so they can learn and develop more effectively,” said Antonius Widodo.
Meanwhile, Hera F. Haryn noted that the program’s implementation in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands is also part of BCA’s effort to expand access to eye health screenings in areas facing challenges in accessing healthcare services, particularly in island regions. Through this program, BCA brings eye screening services directly to schools so that students can access early detection without having to travel long distances.
She explained that the Thousand Islands are one of the regions receiving special attention in this year’s program. The archipelago’s geographical conditions make access to eye care services not always easy, both in terms of the availability of medical personnel and screening facilities.
“Through the ‘Mata Cemerlang, Prestasi Gemilang’ program, which provides screenings and early detection of vision impairments for students, BCA aims to expand access to eye care for students, including those in areas with limited access to healthcare services,” said Hera F. Haryn.
This program is a continuation of the vision screening and early detection initiative previously conducted in the Greater Bandung area in 2025. During that inaugural implementation, more than 2,100 students across five schools received comprehensive eye examinations, with over 300 pairs of corrective eyeglasses and eye vitamins provided to students in need.
Through the continuation of this program, BCA hopes that more Indonesian students will have the opportunity to receive early eye health screenings. With better vision, students are expected to be able to participate in the learning process more comfortably and effectively, and have greater opportunities to achieve academic success.
