Empowering Assisted Tourism Villages Through Cuisine, Bakti BCA Holds a Labuan Bajo Themed Gastronomy Workshop

Labuan Bajo, 10July 2026 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) through their corporate shared value (CSV) program Bakti BCA, strengthens their commitment to empowering communities in East Indonesia by holding a gastronomy skills workshop for the organizers of a Desa Bakti BCA in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

This program was attended by 9 Desa Bakti BCA organizers, and was held as proof of Bakti BCA's commitment in supporting their assisted villages and maximizing the potential held by each village, which includes gastronomy. This workshop is designed as a strategic step in empowering village organizers and their skills in the field of gastronomy, including exploring the local cuisine through history, art, and culture. Through this workshop, assisted tourism villages will hopefully be able to find inspiration for the growth of the local cuisine of each Desa Bakti BCA.

"Local cuisine is a potential that is very close to the village community's daily life. Through this workshop, we hope to push organizers of Desa Bakti BCA to be more confident in serving the signature flavors and culture of their regions with high standards of presentation, so that it can become one of the pillars of a sustainable economy for the village community," said BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn.

This workshop brings an end-to-end approach for gastronomy, starting from the choosing and processing of local ingredients, cooking techniques, as well as how to plate and serve dishes to seem more appealing to tourists. Through this approach, participants are asked to directly practice each stage, with the help of Dapur Tara, a business based on Flores cuisine and culture located in Labuan Bajo, as facilitators of this workshop.

Aside from Labuan Bajo, Bakti BCA has always accompanied assisted tourism villages in several regions in Indonesia to optimize the local economy's potential in each village, including in culinary fields, crafts, and tourism. BCA gives holistic assistance to increase the quality of human resources amongst the village community, through programs such as financial management, living food houses (RPH), revitalizing coffee plantations, certification assistance, as well as a range of other development programs.

All of that real contribution is done through 3 main pillars of the Desa Bakti BCA initiative:

  • Community-Based Businesses: ensuring Desa Bakti BCA businesses are owned and managed by local communities in each region.
  • Capacity building: holding regular training sessions to increase the quality of human resources and the running of village institutions.
  • Market access: Supporting businesses through promotion and expanding market access through the BCA ecosystem's channels.

"We believe that building the capacity of the village community needs to be done consistently and continuously to ensure the impact is really felt. Because of that, each program is designed to be interconnected and always support the development of local potential as a whole," Hera F. Haryn adds.

This initiative is a part of the continuous effort of Bakti BCA in building village ecosystems that are independent and competitive, as well as making sure each program is not just temporary training, but brings real impact that can grow in the long-term.
