BCA Supports the Academic Success of Over 2,100 Students in Greater Bandung Through the ‘Mata Cemerlang, Prestasi Gemilang’ Initiative

Bandung, 17 October 2025 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continue its commitment to supporting eye health awareness among Indonesians, especially the younger generation, through the Pemeriksaan dan Deteksi Dini Gangguan Penglihatan bagi Pelajar (Early Detection and Eye Health Check-Up Program for Students), themed “Mata Cemerlang, Prestasi Gemilang”. Under the Bakti BCA Kesehatan pillar, more than 2,100 students from five schools across Greater Bandung received comprehensive eye examinations and early detection services.

Held from early September to October, this initiative coincides with the spirit of World Sight Day (celebrated globally every October) to raise awareness about vision care. The program aims to help students better understand their eye health conditions and provide access to corrective eyewear that supports optimal learning performance.

This closing ceremony took place at SMP Pasundan 1 Bandung, attended by Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the West Java Provincial Health Office Yus Ruseno, Director of Human Resources, Education, and Research at the National Eye Center (PMN) Cicendo Eye Hospital Dr. Elfa Ali Idrus, SpM, EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility BCA Hera F. Haryn, Head of BCA KCU Bandung Renny Angraeny, as well as BCA management and local government representatives.

EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility BCA Hera F. Haryn said, “Healthy vision is a crucial foundation for children to learn and grow, both inside and outside the classroom. Through this program, BCA is expanding access to eye care services for students, particularly in areas where such support is needed most. By providing free eye check-ups and eyeglasses, we hope to create a more inclusive learning environment and nurture a young generation ready to compete and contribute to Indonesia’s future.”

Bandung became the pilot region for ‘Pemeriksaan dan Deteksi Dini Gangguan Penglihatan bagi Pelajar’ collaborative program with Pusat Mata Nasional (PNM) Cicendo Eye Hospital, considering its status as one of Indonesia’s major education hubs with a high student population.

This collaboration between PMN Cicendo Eye Hospital and BCA marks a concrete step toward expanding access to comprehensive eye health services for students. We believe cross-sector partnerships like this are vital to ensuring every child has an equal opportunity to learn with healthy vision,” said Director of HR, Education, and Research at PMN Cicendo Eye Hospital Dr. Elfa Ali Idrus, SpM,.

Throughout the program period, BCA provided free eye examinations to students from MTs Pasundan (Cimahi), SMP Darul Hikmah (West Bandung Regency), SMPN 1 Bale Endah (Bandung Regency), SMPN 1 Ciparay (Bandung Regency), and SMP Pasundan 1 (Bandung City). More than 300 corrective eyeglasses and eye vitamins were distributed symbolically during the closing ceremony, marking the successful conclusion of the month-long initiative.

“We hope this program will inspire junior high school students across Greater Bandung to achieve their best potential and see a brighter future ahead,” added Hera.

BCA’s commitment to improving eye health for Indonesians is also reflected in its annual free cataract surgery initiative, which has helped restore proper vision for more than 9,824 beneficiaries to date. In 2025, the cataract operations were conducted in East Halmahera (North Maluku), Kapuas (Central Kalimantan), Lebong (Bengkulu), and Tasikmalaya (West Java).

Beyond eye health, under the Bakti BCA, the company consistently supports public well-being through other health-focused initiatives, including free health screenings (covering hypertension, diabetes, blood pressure, and uric acid checks) and the Donor Darah Bakti BCA Program, which has collected over 15,500 blood bags for communities across Indonesia.
