Jakarta, October 16, 2025 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through its Bakti BCA program, held the grand final of the Bakti BCA Teacher Tech Championship competition on Wednesday (10/15) in Jakarta. This innovative event aims to improve the literacy and relevance of high school (SMA/MA) teachers in Eastern Indonesia, particularly in the Maluku and Papua regions. The competition encourages teachers to develop computational thinking and action skills as a foundation for coding and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities within the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) framework, ultimately fostering more interactive and adaptive learning experiences.
The Grand Final event was also attended by the Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed., Director General of Teachers, Education Personnel, and Teacher Education, Prof. Dr. Nunuk Suryani, M.Pd., BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono, and BCA EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn, along with BCA’s senior management.
BCA Director Antonius Widodo stated, “As part of Bakti BCA's commitment to improving the quality of human resources, we believe that the key to Indonesia's digital future lies in the hands of teachers. Through the Bakti BCA Teacher Tech Championship, we support the ability of teachers in Eastern Indonesia to master computational thinking skills. That way, they can produce a young generation that is adaptive, innovative, and ready to face global challenges.”
The Bakti BCA Teacher Tech Championship is part of BCA's efforts to support the professional development of teachers. In addition to the competition, participants receive intensive training and mentoring on the implementation of coding and artificial intelligence in learning. This method encourages teachers to develop in-depth learning innovations themed around Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to be implemented in the classroom.
The Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M. Ed., in his speech expressed his appreciation for Bakti BCA's initiative in improving the capacity and teaching skills of teachers in Eastern Indonesia, "First of all, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to Bakti BCA for its contribution in helping the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to educate the nation. I also appreciate the Teacher Tech Championship program organized by BCA to improve the quality of learning, especially in Eastern Indonesia."
Teachers in Maluku and Papua enthusiastically welcomed this program, as evidenced by the number of registrants, which reached 147 groups. After undergoing administrative selection, 116 projects were declared eligible. A rigorous screening process resulted in 16 groups of participants (8 from the Maluku region and 8 from the Papua region) qualifying as semi-finalists. These teachers were also facilitated to participate in intensive Teacher Professional Development training, both online and offline, including a hackathon to create prototypes of Smart Classrooms, coding integration, and Artificial Intelligence in the real context of school learning.
From the 16 semi-finalists, 8 finalists were selected (4 from the Maluku region and 4 from the Papua region), followed by the selection of the 4 best grand finalists who competed for the winning position in Jakarta. The finalists presented the results of their innovation projects to a panel of judges who were experts in the fields of educational technology and computational thinking.
The four groups of participants who advanced to the Grand Final brought various great innovations that addressed various environmental and social issues using Coding and KA technology. After going through the final assessment, the winners were determined as follows:
- Maluku Region – SMAN 1 Tual (Taslim Ade and Merlin Megawe). Won the competition with their work “Designing a Prototype of a Solar-Powered Unmanned Waste Transport Amphibious Vehicle based on IoT (Internet of Things) with Integrated AI Smart Controller”
- Papua Region – SMAN 2 Kota Sorong (Denny Adelyta and Cahya Putra). Won the competition with their work “Internet of Things (IoT)-Based Water Quality Monitoring and Early Warning System in Schools (Household Environment)”.

The Bakti BCA Teacher Tech Championship is part of BCA’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in expanding access to quality education across Indonesia. The competition reflects BCA’s dedication to providing opportunities for teachers from diverse regions to showcase their talents and reinforces its ongoing contribution to human capital development, especially in preparing educators to nurture a digitally ready generation.
In conjunction with the 2025 Grand Final, Bakti BCA also presented special recognition to teachers from Bakti BCA partner schools. These awards honored their dedication and contributions as beneficiaries of the Bakti BCA program. Awarded schools came from various regions, including Bengkulu, East Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Southwest Papua.
