Bengkulu, August 21, 2025 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) has once again strengthened its commitment to improving the health of the Indonesian people by providing free cataract surgery services. This time, BCA conducted a Cataract Surgery Social Service Program at the Lebong Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Bengkulu from Thursday (August 14) to Friday (August 15). In collaboration with the Cataract Blindness Prevention Section of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (SPBK PERDAMI), the program successfully reached 217 eyes in Lebong District and surrounding areas.
The opening ceremony was attended by Lebong Regent H. Azhari, Head of the Lebong District Health Office Rachman, Director of Lebong Regional General Hospital Eni Efriyani, representative of SPBK Perdami Pusat Dinda Arken Devona, Head of the Lebong District Attorney's Office Evelyn Nur Agusta, and Head of BCA KCU Bengkulu Agus Susanto Wang.
BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn said, "Cataracts are one of the main causes of blindness in Indonesia, due to the high intensity of sunlight in this tropical country. Unfortunately, limited healthcare facilities mean that access to treatment is not yet evenly distributed. In collaboration with SPBK PERDAMI, BCA is working to expand the reach of free cataract surgery services across the country, restoring hope for people with cataracts to see again, be productive, and contribute to their communities."
Lebong is a region located in a hilly area, thus many of its residents dependent on agriculture as their source of livelihood. However, the high exposure to sunlight in this area also increases the risk of vision disorders, such as cataracts. Recognizing this need, BCA, under the umbrella of the Bakti BCA program, has consistently organized free cataract surgery social services in collaboration with SPBK PERDAMI since 2001. Over the past two decades, this program has reached thousands of patients in various regions of Indonesia, with a total of 9,446 patients having benefited from it as of July 2025.
BCA's consistent track record in supporting public eye health continues. In 2024, this initiative has reached seven different locations: Namrole (Maluku), Pasangkayu (West Sulawesi), Central Bengkulu (Bengkulu), Banjar City (West Java), Central Maluku (Maluku), West Manggarai (East Nusa Tenggara), and Cianjur (West Java). Meanwhile, in 2025, this activity was first implemented in Maba, East Halmahera Regency, and continued in Kapuas, Central Kalimantan, providing free surgery to more than 305 patients. BCA also proactively provided support in the form of cataract surgery equipment to assist SPBK PERDAMI in its efforts to eradicate cataracts in Indonesia.
Director of Lebong Regional General Hospital Eni Efriyani appreciated BCA's efforts in supporting the reduction of blindness due to cataracts in Indonesia, "We would like to thank BCA for initiating the Cataract Surgery Social Service program, which reaches various parts of Indonesia. The collaboration between BCA and SPBK PERDAMI not only provides access to treatment for the people of Bengkulu, but also inspires them to become productive again and have a positive impact on their families and surrounding communities."
In addition to conducting Cataract Surgery Social Services, Bakti BCA also contributes positively to society through various activities in the health sector. Some of these programs include free health checkups, which cover screening for hypertension, diabetes, high blood pressure, and gout, as well as the Bakti BCA Blood Donation program, which has provided more than 15,000 bags of blood to the masses.
