Bakti BCA Encourages Environmental Awareness Initiatives for BCA Expoversary 2025 Visitors

Tangerang, 5 March 2025 - An interesting aspect of BCA Expoversary 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang Regency, last February 20-23 was spotted. Inside Hall 3 of ICE BSD, there was an area containing various Bakti BCA initiatives aimed at supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. Through one of its pillars, Bakti Lingkungan, Bakti BCA invited visitors to participate in a variety of environmental initiatives promoted by the company.

First, Bakti BCA provided a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) unit in collaboration with Plasticpay. Through this installation, BCA Expoversary 2025 visitors had the opportunity to exchange plastic bottle waste into points, which could be converted into rupiah cash. All collected plastic bottles will be recycled into eco-friendly fibers or raw materials for environmentally friendly products. During the four-days event of BCA Expoversary 2025, Bakti BCA recorded 2,967 plastic bottles collected, equivalent to 55,48 kilograms.

The positive impact of this initiative was further expanded through the “10 Bottles for 1 Egg” campaign, designed not only to reduce plastic waste, but also as a concrete effort to support marine ecosystems sustainability. Every 10 plastic bottles collected, contributes to the release of one sea turtle into the Banyuwangi ocean. Additionally, the first 25 visitors who participated in this campaign each day had the opportunity to receive exciting prizes from Bakti BCA as an appreciation for their contribution to protect the environment.

Bakti BCA also organized various educational activities to raise cross-generational awareness about environmental awareness. Visitors of the Bakti BCA area had the opportunity to color rare and protected animal characters such as sea turtles, orangutans, and leopards on totebags that could be taken home. In addition, there was also an interactive game of Snakes and Ladders to educate visitors on the importance of environmental preservation, especially the conservation of rare and protected animals. This initiative is a concrete step in raising awareness from an early age to preserve animals and the ecosystem's sustainability in the future.

BCA EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn said, “We are very grateful to see the positive response and enthusiasm shown by visitors to BCA Expoversary 2025 in taking part in this environmental preservation effort. BCA believes that small steps taken consistently can form good habits that have a big impact on environmental sustainability. We hope this initiative will further increase public awareness of the importance of recycling plastic bottle waste and encourage the realization of a healthier marine ecosystem.”

Bakti BCA's commitment to environmental sustainability has long been realized through various initiatives under the Bakti Lingkungan pillar. One tangible example of this commitment is the support for sea turtle conservation in Indonesian waters. Since 2016, BCA, in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF), has actively participated in sea turtle conservation actions, including egg relocation, hatchling release, fragrant screwpine planting, and educational programs for the community and students. These efforts reflect Bakti BCA's commitment to support the government in maintaining the balance of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems.

During 2024, a total of 17,531 sea turtle eggs were successfully relocated from 171 nests, with 15,003 hatchlings released back into their natural habitat. Furthermore, 273 students were educated on the importance of biodiversity sustainability. In the same year, Bakti BCA supported BSTF to launch the “Intan Ruang” innovation, Indonesia’s first sand-free incubation tool with a capacity of 15,000 eggs.

Still under the Bakti Lingkungan pillar, Bakti BCA rehabilitated 5 orangutans and released another five back into the wild in 2024. In collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry, BCA also supported efforts to monitor the Javan leopard population through the installation of surveillance cameras, genetic analysis, and public awareness campaigns. Additionally, Bakti BCA planted 51,500 trees across four strategic locations to restore degraded land. Beyond tree planting, BCA regularly monitors tree growth to ensure its environmental impact, working with expert partners to maintain data accuracy and credibility. In 2024, trees planted from 2021-2024 successfully absorbed 107.5 tons of CO₂e, with a survival rate of 91.7%.
