BCA and Association of BI Retirees Collaborate to Build Clean Water Installation to Help Coastal Communities in Central Kupang

Kupang, 25 February 2025 – Dirty and salty. That is the strong impression felt by the locals when tasting the water in Noelbaki village, Central Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This taste and sensation are not without reason. The Noelbaki village's proximity to the sea is one of the main causes.

Access to affordable and quality clean water is a luxury for the people of Noelbaki village. Due to geographical factors, people there have to work hard to get clean water to fulfill their daily needs.

All this time, the people of Noelbaki village have often accessed clean water by purchasing it for Rp70,000 to Rp80,000 per tank once a week. This cost cannot be considered cheap, but they have no choice but to spend it in order to access clean water and meet their basic daily needs.

Seeing these difficult conditions, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), in collaboration with the Association of Bank Indonesia Retirees (PPBI), took the initiative to provide a clean water installation in the form of a borehole well in Noelbaki Village. The facility is provided to ease the burden and improve the quality of health of the local community.

The clean water installation was inaugurated on Monday (24/2) in an event attended by PPBI Vice Chairman Arief Budi Santoso, BCA Commissioner Cyrillus Harinowo, Head of BI NTT Representative Office Agus Sistyo Widjajati, and BCA Head of Main Branch Office Kupang Pranoto.

During the event, BCA Commissioner Cyrillus Harinowo explained the rationale behind BCA's involvement in the provision of clean water facilities. According to him, BCA realizes that access to clean water is a basic need that should be accessible and affordable to every individual.

“Therefore, BCA seeks to provide a sustainable solution to improve the quality of life of the Noelbaki village’s community through the construction of boreholes as water installations. We hope that this facility can contribute to improving the welfare of the community, especially access to quality and more affordable clean water,” said Cyrillus Harinowo.

PPBI Deputy Chairman Arief Budi Santoso said the same thing. Arief hopes that the clean water installation that was built can be well maintained and useful in the long term.

“We appreciate the collaboration with BCA, because initiatives like this show how synergy between various parties can have a sustainable positive impact on society,” said Arief Budi Santoso.

BCA and PPBI's collaboration in the construction of a clean water installation in Central Kupang is expected to improve the welfare of the Noelbaki community, both in terms of health, economy and overall quality of life. This initiative is the second form of cooperation between BCA and PPBI. In 2023, BCA and PPBI had built a similar installation in Pedukuhan Gunung Cilik, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta.

BCA has also supported the construction of 2 boreholes in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta in 2018. The construction aims to expand access to clean water for local communities that often experience drought. These efforts are consistently carried out by BCA as a form of commitment in supporting sustainable development goals and improving community welfare.
