Makassar, 25 October 2023 - As part of its commitment to support Indonesian MSMEs, BCA, in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises and the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH), organized a Halal Certificate Workshop for MSMEs supported by BCA in Makassar. This workshop provided MSMEs with training on self-declaration halal certification registration, empowering them to independently handle halal certification for their products.
The training took place at the BCA Makassar Regional Learning Center and was attended by 100 Makassar MSMEs. BCA Regional Business Development Head for Region IV Soeherdianto Budi Krisnandono and the Garda Transfumi team from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs were present at the event to guide the workshop participants through the training.
BCA Regional Business Development Head for Region IV Soeherdianto Budi Krisnandono explained, “BCA is actively reinforcing its commitment to boosting the well-being of MSMEs in Indonesia. Through the Halal Certification Workshop, BCA aims to empower MSMEs to improve the quality of their products, promote them more effectively, and ultimately increase their sales revenue, thus making them more self-sufficient.”
BCA not only offers training but also provides free incentives to MSME owners who take part in this program. These incentives are intended to assist business owners who aim to expand their ventures by obtaining a halal certificate, making it easier for them to do so.
BCA has been conducting training programs consistently to help MSMEs obtain halal certificates. In the current year, BCA has committed to offering similar support to MSMEs in regions like DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sumatra, and various other provinces where there is a growing demand for halal products.
Empowering MSMEs has always been an integral part of BCA’s mission. Data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs reveals that, on average, business turnover increases by 8.5% after obtaining a halal certificate. In light of this, BCA is actively working to expedite the halal certification process for 1,000 MSMEs by the end of 2023. This initiative aligns with the commitment made in collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.
As of September 30, 2023, BCA disbursed credit to MSMEs worth IDR 104.8 trillion, showing a year-on-year growth of 16.4%. BCA’s dedication to empowering MSMEs is further demonstrated through the BCA UMKM Fest 2023. This event took place both offline at Gandaria City, Jakarta, from 9 to 13 August, and online from 12 August to 13 September 2023, and attracted a total of 1,400 MSME participants.
BCA EVP of Corporate Communication & Responsibility Hera F. Haryn aims to enhance the quality of MSME products by facilitating the availability of halal certification facilities. “As a country with the largest Muslim population globally, obtaining halal certification is an essential necessity for businesses in Indonesia. It is expected that this support will encourage more MSMEs to improve their product quality through halal certification,” concluded Hera.
For information, the Ministry of Finance stated that the halal economy has the potential to boost Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by USD 5.1 billion annually through exports and investments, given the country's 230 million Muslim population. The global halal economy itself is projected to reach USD 4.96 trillion by the year 2030.
