BCA Offered Aid to BOS Foundation for Releasing Orangutan back to Kehje Sewen Forest, East Kalimantan

Jakarta, June 24, 2016 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) expressed its concern for protected habitat conservation efforts, this time, by supporting Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation’s release of orangutans back into Kehje Sewen forest wilderness in East Kalimantan. The nature conservation act was an implementation of Bakti BCA Synergy Solution pillar.

The handover of the Rp 200 million donation was held on June 24, 2016 in Jakarta. BCA President Director Jahja Setiaatmadja presented the donation to BOS Foundation CEO Jamartin Sihite, and witnessed by BCA Corporate Secretary Inge Setiawati as well as BOS Foundation founder Bungaran Saragih.

“We thank BOS Foundation, who have been working very hard to conserve the habitat and population of orangutans in Borneo since 1991. They have been dedicated to the conservation of Bornean orangutans and their habitats through working together with local people, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as international organization partners. As a banking institution concerned with environmental and animal conservation, we, of course, fully support this effort. If orangutans can be saved, other different species may also be saved. Our contribution will hopefully help preserve the forest ecosystem and the sustainability of our children's future," Jahja explained.

BCA, a prominent banking entity in Indonesia, is committed to environmental conservation, specifically in this case, in the conservation of orangutans and their habitats. Orangutan is the only big ape species in Asia and 90% of the population live in Indonesia. With this partnership, BCA exemplifies real actions, where the private sector can hold an important role, not only to ensure the direction of sustainable business and economic development, but also directly or indirectly encourage its customers to make sustainable decisions. “This effort supports the government mandate on Indonesia Strategy and Action Plan of Orangutan Conservation 2007 - 2017," Jahja continued.

BCA support for the conservation and release of orangutans into Kehje Sewen forest, East Kalimantan, has been consistent since it began in 2012. In addition to orangutans, BCA also supports sea turtle conservation in collaboration with environmental organization World Wide Funds for Nature (WWF) around the turtle rehabilitation area of Pangumbahan, West Java.

“Partnership between BCA and BOSF is hoped to encourage future partnerships and boost awareness from every level of society to participate in creating sustainable habitats for protected species. Care and love of Indonesian people towards the environment is very much needed to ensure we behave more environmentally friendly," Jahja concluded.
