Jakarta, 20 November 2017 – Commemorating World Children’s Day on 20 November, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) Tbk., through the Bakti BCA program, has once again participated in supporting the Holistic Integrative Early Childhood Education by donating to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
The donation of Rp 850 million was symbolically submitted by President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja to Deputy Representative of UNICEF Lauren Rumble, witnessed by Executive Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of BCA Inge Setiawati, Senior Vice President of CSR Sapto Rachmadi, and Chief of Private Sector Fundraising & Partnership of Gregor Henneka in Jakarta, Monday (20/11). Donation will be used to finance the Holistic and Integrative Early Childhood Education (PAUD HI) in Papua.
“Happy World Children’s Day! May our children, as the nation’s successor, can get continuous support in education and are protected from any act of violence so as to achieve their dreams for Indonesia’s better future. This UNICEF donation is essential in helping to create healthy, smart, and cheerful Indonesian children, with a good moral compass,” said Jahja.
Chief of Private Partnerships and Fundraising of UNICEF Indonesia Gregor Henneka expressed his appreciation for the consistency of BCA’s commitment to children. “It takes a village to raise a child and everyone should participate in ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to grow up healthy and has the best life possible. I am very moved knowing that the donation submission coincided with the celebration of World Children’s Day, a day to celebrate children’s rights across the globe. A day where we put our children’s interests ahead of us, listen to their hearts, and renew our promise to make children the center of every decision and policy we make.”
UNICEF data identified a number of factors are impeding access to an adequate, decent livelihood for children. Approximately 13% of Indonesian children growing up in families that live below the national poverty line, 37% of whom today facing growth inhibition, including malnutrition, 21% of Indonesian children between the ages 13-17 years have experienced an intimidation at school environment, and 30% of Indonesian children do not have the opportunity to get an early childhood education. This is what encourages BCA to be proactively involved in the PAUD HI program initiated by UNICEF.
“Previosuly, BCA has also made a donation worth Rp 850 million to UNICEF for PAUD HI program 2016-2017,” explained Jahja. He added, “This PAUD HI program resumes the previous program conducted in two Sorong and Raja Ampat Regency. The donation is aimed at helping children gaining access to early childhood education services, parents and/or caregivers will acquire comprehensive knowledge of holistic integrative early childhood development and implement that knowledge to diurnal parenting, in addition to supporting public health volunteers, PAUD teachers and government employees will get training on PAUD HI.”
“BCA has been a partner of UNICEF for more than 17 years. We are grateful to UNICEF Indonesia for giving us the opportunity to participate in bringing positive change in school environment and ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indonesian children. Let’s stand and work together for the better future of children and the nation,” Jahja concluded.
