Palangkaraya, 2 August 2017 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to show its supports towards the preservation of wildlife habitats, including orangutan. After making a donation of Rp 200 million for releasing orangutan in Kehje Sewen Forest, East Kalimantan, BCA continues to work with Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), and this time, it directly involves in the release of 12 orangutans from the Rehabilitation Center Nyaru Menteng in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, Central Kalimantan, Wednesday (02/08).
On the sidelines of the release, Executive Vice President Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of BCA Inge Setiawati commenting about the importance of working together to preserve orangutan as a protected wildlife species, which has become the responsibility of all people. “So far, many people think that the safest place for orangutans is the rehabilitation centers. In fact, the most feasible place for wildlife species is their natural habitat, the forest. Therefore, BCA strongly supports the BOSF activity to release orangutans that have previously undergone a process of rehabilitation through the Forest School system and pre-release stages,” Inge stated.
Since 2012, as the largest orangutan foundation in the world, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), has been actively releasing 289 orangutans in Kalimantan, with around 650 of them are still in the rehab center. As of first half of 2017, BOSF has released 167 orangutans in Protected Forest of Bukit Batikap in Central Kalimantan, 75 orangutans in Kehje Sewen Forest in East Kalimantan, and 47 orangutans in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park in Central Kalimantan. This time, in cooperation with BCA, BOSF has dispatched 12 orangutans from the Orangutan Reintroduction Program in Nyaru Menteng to pre-determined release points in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, Central Kalimantan.
“We are honored to take part in the orangutan release from the rehabilitation center to this natural forest. Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, which became the orangutan release point this time, has been designated as a conservation area, that we believe is safe from possible exploitation in the future,” Inge concluded.
