BCA Donates Rp300 Million for Borehole Construction in Gunung Kidul

Yogyakarta, 19 November 2018 – Recognizing the importance of water resources in our life, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), through the Bakti BCA initiated by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) BCA, took the initiative to improve the quality of people’s lives, including in the health sector. The initiative was implemented by BCA through a Rp300 million donation for Borehole Installation to improve the welfare of the people in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta.

The provision of the Borehole Installation was officially granted at the inauguration ceremony attended by Independent Commissioner of BCA Cyrillus Harinowo, Executive Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of BCA Inge Setiawati, Head of Branch Business Development (KPBC) of BCA KCU Yogyakarta Wahyu Hariatmanto, City Mayor of Gunung Kidul Badingah, Head of Department of Public Works for Housing and Settlements (DPUPKP) Gunung Kidul Eddy Praptono, and Head of Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Gunung Kidul Sri Suhartanta at Balai Dusun Karangtengah II, Karangtengah Village, Wonosari District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, Monday (16/11).

Cyrillus said that the Rp300 million donation for the construction of two new boreholes was aimed at improving clean water services to the community. Of the two new borehole construction supported by BCA, the Ngelorejo Well, in Gari Village, has been completed and is ready to use. Water supply is now secure by reinforcing and adding additional raw water supplies.

"Water is a source of life for all life on Earth, with countless benefits. Therefore, we took the initiative to realize our concern in order to maintain the sustainability of clean water through the provision of boreholes,” added Cyrillus.

In addition to that, the drought that had struck Gunung Kidul in June 2018 also became the underlying background of BCA in easing the steps to help and provide clean water through this borehole project. At that time, the drought condition affected 54 villages from 11 sub-districts in Gunung Kidul Regency. As a result, 31,607 households (KK) and 96,523 people suffered from lack of access to clean water sources.

"On the other hand, we see that Gunung Kidul is also one of Indonesia’s untapped tourism potentials, attracting local and foreign tourists. It can be seen from the number of tourists visiting Gunung Kidul, which in 2011 was amounting to 500 thousand, and has now reached approximately 3 million. The natural attraction potential, including 13 geopark sites, which are part of the Gunung Sewu Geopark network and has been recognised by UNESCO, also adds to the uniqueness of Gunung Kidul. It is a pride and honor for us to contribute to such noble goals, providing clean water through boreholes for the better progress of the local community,” Cyrillus concluded.
