BCA Makes a Book Donation worth Rp2.553 Billion via #BukuUntukIndonesia Movement

Jakarta, 14 November 2018 – Today, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) officially holds a closing ceremony of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement. The movement succeeded in rounding up a donation of Rp2,452,287,951, with a total amount of donation disbursed of Rp2,553,000,000, converted into 43,734 books and distributed to 111 schools in 60 regions in Indonesia.

Attending the closing ceremony of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement was President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja, Director of BCA Santoso, Executive Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility of BCA Inge Setiawati, Executive Vice President of Transaction Banking Business Development of BCA Mira Wibowo, Indonesian Ambassador for Reading for the period of 2011 – 2015 Andy F. Noya, Chairman of Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) Jaya Suprana, and Deputy Chairman of the School Literacy Movement Task Force of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs Wiel Muldian di Jakarta (14/11).

On the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement, President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja said that the movement is a form of BCA’s commitment to instill reading habits in various parts of Indonesia by providing books as a means of learning support. “We are working with many parties to ensure that the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement achieves its target. And we would like to thank everyone who helped the implementation of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement, especially the Indonesian people who have participated in the movement. We are very well aware of how valuable books are in remote places where access to books is very limited, and BCA is grateful to be able to contribute to distributing these books which in turn help Indonesian youth realize their dreams,” saidJahja.

On the occasion, BCA donated books consisting of general-knowledge books, character building books, and children’s story books to four public elementary schools (SDN) namely SDN Telaga Asih 01, SDN Parung 4, SDN Taktakan 1, and SDN Taktakan 2. Furthermore, MURI gave BCA the Indonesian World Record Museum Award for the Record of Most Books Donated to Students of Elementary School. In addition to that, the closing event of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement was also enlivened by the dancing and singing performance from Kelompok Teater Tanah Air (KTTA).

The #BukuUntukIndonesia movement, commencing from March 2017, invited the Indonesian people from all walks of life to participate by choosing the type of donation package, which will be converted into books and distributed to 60 regions across Indonesia. As a form of appreciation, BCA gave a T-shirt of kindness for those who take part in this movement.

The fundraising, which took from 15 March 2017 until 21 February 2018, managed to gather a total donation of Rp2,452,287,951, with a total of distributed donation of Rp2,553,000,000 that’s been converted into 43,734 books. The books were then distributed to 111 beneficiary schools, spread all across the nation that include Aceh and Lampung representing Sumatera, Garut and Solo representing Jawa, Singkawang representing Kalimantan, Makassar and Manado representing Sulawesi, and Kupang.

“To build an intelligent nation, books must be made widely accessible. In the era of digitalization today when technology has even penetrated the more remote parts of the country, the Indonesian youth must have access to quality books, as well as to educate them for they are the successor of the next generation. We would like to thank the community and our customers who have become a part of the #BukuUntukIndonesia movement to bring about a profound change in our country Indonesia. Hopefully, the movement can provide a positive contribution in helping the youth realize their dreams of a better future,” Jahja concluded.
