Malang, 7 July 2018 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) once again reaffirms its commitment to preserving wayang as Indonesian culture that carries within it tremendous moral values. In collaboration with Paguyuban Karyawan BCA Pecinta Wayang Indonesia (Asia Wangi) community, BCA is demonstrating its commitment by organizing a wayang book giveaway to schools and universities in Indonesia through the Wayang Book for Indonesia Movement “Wayang In Books, Tak Kenal Maka Tak Wayang”.
Attending the Wayang Book for Indonesia Movement was Head of BCA Regional Office VII Djoko R Mijaata, Chief of Operational Support Regional VII BCA Edy Susanto and Dean of Literature Faculty of Univ Negeri Malang Utami Widiati in Malang, Saturday (07/07). The event was also participated by approximately 50 students and lecturers of Univeritas Negeri Malang.
“BCA sees that wayang, an Indonesian national identity, must be managed from time to time to be fully entertaining for all levels of Indonesian society, including the younger generation. We never stop our efforts to instil and reinstate public interest in wayang, especially the youth. This is what sets us to initiate the Wayang Book for Indonesia Movement,” explained Djoko R Mijaata.
Together with Asia Wangi, BCA launches the event by distributing books on wayang knowledge, history, characters, comics, novels, even everyday life stories analogous to wayang figures to 14 schools and 2 universities in various regions of Indonesia. In addition to that, BCA also organizes a seminar and Wayang Topeng Malang plays. The seminar invited three keynote speakers in the fields of Arts and Culture, namely Sumari, Sujiwo Sutejo, and Pitoyo Amrih. A Wayang Topeng play was also performed later that evening at Kedungmonggo village and conducted by Padepokan Asmorobangun.
The Wayang Book for Indonesia movement aims at encouraging the younger generation to learn about national culture especially Wayang in Indonesia as well as encouraging reading for young people for their knowledge, insight and repertoire, especially in wayang puppetry. “These various activities related to wayang are held in order to collect further information regarding the art of wayang so that BCA can help encourage the Indonesian younger generation to preserve Indonesian wayang,” continued Djoko.
“BCA realizes that in the midst of modernization today, Indonesian culture including wayang is now more recognized by the younger generation. Therefore, BCA seeks to bring more of such activities to the Indonesian society, especially the youth. Through this movement, it is expected to instil interest in the younger generation to give insights into the wayang puppetry so that they will learn, love, and are moved to preserve the Indonesian national heritage that has been internationally recognized,” Djoko concluded.
