Jakarta, 14 May 2018 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) once again reaffirms its commitment to preserving wayang as Indonesian culture that carries within it tremendous moral values. The commitment is demonstrated by BCA through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) ‘Wayang for Students’. Through this discussion, BCA invites activists and artists from the respective field to collect further information related to the platform that introduces wayang to the younger generation in order to instill in them concern and interest towards wayang preservation.
Attending the ‘Wayang For Students’ FGD was Executive Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Inge Setiawati, Sapto Rachmadi, Vice President CSR BCA Rizali Zakaria together with Wayang Activist Arie Dagienkz, CEO of Provetic Iwan Setyawan, Puppeteer Ki Aneng Kiswantoro, Head of PR Division of Indonesian National Wayang Secretariat (Sena Wangi) Dra. Eny Sulistyowati, Researcher and Lecturer of Universitas Indonesia (UI) Dwi Wororetno Mastuti S.S, M.Hum, General Chairman of Sena Wangi Suparmin Sunjoyo, Secretary General of Persatuan Pedalangan Indonesia (Pepadi) Radiyo, Founder of Paguyuban Karyawan Pecinta Wayang Asia Wangi of BCA Adhiyoga Utama in Jakarta, Monday (14/05).
“BCA continues its commitment to preserve wayang puppetry as part of Indonesian culture that carries within it tremendous moral values. We strive to instill the public interest in wayang, especially the younger generation. This is what motivates us to organize this ‘Wayang for Students’ Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the activists and artist from its respective field,” said Inge.
The ‘Wayang for Student’ FGD is aimed to get information from the wayang activists about their view on the platform and at the same time to develop strategy in promoting wayang puppetry to the young generation. ‘Wayang for Student’ is a part of the series of Bakti BCA activities in the field of culture, which is organized under the auspices of the “BCA for Indonesian Wayang” program. “These various activities related to wayang are held in order to collect further information regarding the art of wayang so that BCA can help encourage the young generation to preserve Indonesian wayang,” continued Inge.
Previously. BCA had also organized ‘Wayang for Student’ FGD which was attended by a number of teachers and students of SMA Santa Ursula, teachers and students of SMP Negeri 68, and teachers and students of SMP Islam Tugasku on Monday (07/05). The ‘Wayang for Student’ itself is also part of BCA’s sustainable efforts in promoting wayang to the younger generation. In 2017, BCA organized a Workshop ‘Wayang For Student’ attended by 719 students and teachers from 8 schools in Jakarta. These students and teachers were introduced to a deeper understanding of wayang through the Wayang Orang performance.
“BCA sees the current involvement of the young generation in wayang is still relatively low, which in turn making the puppetry less empowered to grab the young Indonesians’ attention and interest. Therefore, BCA seeks to organize activities that would help bring the Indonesian people closer to wayang, especially the younger generation. Through this discussion, it is expected to find useful information on how to inspire the young Indonesians to learn, love and be moved to preserve the Indonesian national heritage that has been internationally recognized,” Inge concluded.
