A Series of BCA 61st Anniversary Social Activities: BCA Holds Free Medical Treatment & Hidroponics Education for the Members of Pentingsari Village

Yogyakarta, 4 March 2018 – The festivity of BCA’s 61st anniversary continues, one of which is by organizing a series of social activities. Through Bakti BCA program, BCA holds free medical treatments and community development training of hydroponic farming education, and making Yogyakarta signature snack pia for the members of Pentingsari Village, Yogyakarta. Attending to open the event was Head of Branch Business Development (KPBC) BCA Yogyakarta Wahyu Hariatmanto accompanied by Vice President Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of BCA Ira Bachtar, Head of Pentingsari Tourism Village Doto Yogantoro, and Head of Dusun Pentingsari Rejo Mulyono in Yogyakarta, Sunday (04/03).

Wahyu said, “BCA wishes to mark its 61st anniversary by sharing its good fortunes with others. The highlight of the program is the introduction and training of crop farming using hydroponic techniques and education to make Pia, which in turn can provide a value added for the community in improving the local economy.”

Hydroponics is a system of crop cultivation, the method of gardening in small spaces. The techniques have been developed in many countries because it is considered to provide more benefits especially for certain types of plants that require dedicated controls in terms of nutritional needs and protection against bacteria and pests. “Hydroponics is increasingly being utilized in Indonesia to ensure food security. Through this hydroponics education, we wish to further develop agro-based entrepreneurship in Pentingsari Village,” added Wahyu.

In addition to hydroponics education, BCA also holds a session about the making of Pia, a signature snack of Yogyakarta. Collaborating with Hotel Eastparc Yogyakarta, BCA demonstrates how to make Pia snack, followed by Pia Making Competition, which was enthusiastically followed by 80 participants from 4 neighborhoods (RT).

“Pia has become one popular signature souvenir of Yogyakarta and well liked by both domestic and foreign tourists. We hope that Pentingsari Village can become one of the centers for Pia snacks that originated from Yogyakarta,” explained Wahyu.

Wahyu added, “Another activity conducted in this program is free medical treatment which is followed by approximately 300 people in Pentingsari Village. This activity is deemed imperative considering the lack of existing health services in the village.”

In addition to the social activities in Pentingsari Village, BCA is also conducting a series of activities in Gua Pindul Tourism Village today and Tamansari Tourism Village on 10 March 2018. The social activities carried out in the said village not only cover free medical treatments, but also followed by various activities such as education for BCA’s foster villages, a competition involving local residents around the village and many other activities.

We also express our gratitdude by conducting other social activities, such as Blood Donor, Cataract Surgeries in various regions in Indonesia, Teacher Seminars for 17 BCA’s Foster Schools, SMEs Seminars, and many others.
