Prior to D-Day, BCA held a number of training and mentoring programs, with the aim of producing a generation of young people who cherish Indonesian cultures.

Inge added that our young generations today live a digital life – surrounded by a variety of digital services and the massive influence of pop culture, whereas our traditional indigenous cultures are slowly being forgotten. This has driven BCA to continue to strive through educational and fun programs to further introduce Indonesian arts to the younger generations such as the Wayang for Student program.

According to the Ministry of Educaction and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, of the eight cultural elements, UNESCO had designated wayang as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since 2003. “Wayang is an authentic Indonesian heritage that contains moral messages and is passed on from generation to generation. Therefore, BCA has consistently organized early wayang introduction programs for Indonesian children. It is hoped to be a strong asset to shape a great character of the younger generations, including students in Semarang,” explained Yandy.

In addition, BCA also heldFinancial Literacy exhibitions, art and culture studio exhibitions, BCA’s assisted village fairs, and karawitan performances from elementary schoolers. Inge added that Wayang for Student is a Bakti BCA’s CSR program that has been held since 2014 and has become a positive platform to preserve and develop Indonesian culture for the young generation.

Besides Semarang, Wayang for Student was also held in Bandung a while ago. “BCA routinely organizes positive activities to introduce wayang as Indonesian culture to more Indonesian students. Furthermore, we hope that the Wayang for Student activities may instil love of wayang in students and most important of all, that these students may adopt positive values through wayang stories,” Inge concluded her remarks.
