Inge said, “We are committed to stand by the people in all aspects, including health. Since 2001, BCA has wanted to make sure that the number of blindness due to cataract in Indonesia continues to decrease over time. As is all known that eye is one of the most important organs of the human body that has a vast number of crucial functions. To that end, BCA consistently performs cataract surgeries for the public, especially those in areas with no optimal health services.”
As is known, the number of cataract sufferers in Indonesia is about 2.4 million people and continues to increase, with an addition of 1% per year. On average, cataract sufferers are still in their productive age. Meanwhile, cataracts are also a leading cause of blindness, with an approximate staggering rate of 60%.
Inge added that reducing the number of blind patients due to cataracts is the responsibility of all parties, including BCA. Therefore, BCA collaborates with Cataract Blindness Eradication Unit of the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (SPBK-Perdami) and since 2017, we have been working with the Kick Andy Foundation to conduct continuous cataract surgeries. These surgeries are free. “For the cataract surgery in West Nusa Tenggara, we estimate to facilitate 100 free operations for the public. We hope that BCA can continue to reach more locations and more people, who are in need of medical treatment in order to reduce the number blindness due to cataracts,” Inge concluded.
