Jakarta, 24 August 2019 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) is holding the BCA Finhacks 2019 taking the theme #blockchaininnovation that focuses on encouraging and developing the use of blockchain technology in financial technology in Indonesia. BCA invites all IT developers, blockchain enthusiasts, startups, students and professionals in Indonesia and Southeast Asia to participate in the biggest blockchain competition in Indonesia.
The series of Finhacks 2019 began with roadshows held in four cities, namely Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and Yogyakarta, before moving to the BCA Finhacks 2019 Demo Day on 23 November.
Attending the roadshow in Jakarta was Deputy President Director of BCA Armand W. Hartono, Senior Executive Vice President of Strategic Information Technology of BCA Hermawan Thendean, EVP Digital Innovation Solution of BCA Jayaprawirya Diah, and Edi Prio Pambudi, Ministerial Expert Staff for the Minster of Economic and Maritime Relations of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. Furthermore, Armand said that the financial hackathon (finhacks) is a concrete manifestation of BCA’s attention on the development of digital economy in Indonesia. “The financial industry must be in line with the fast-growing technology development,” said Armand, Saturday (24/8).
Through BCA Finhancks 2019, it is expected that IT developers, blockchain enthusiasts, startups, students and professionals may be able to produce innovations in pursuit of advanced financial industry corresponds to the development of today’s digital technology. Besides, Finhacks also provide an opportunity that allows IT practitioners to gather, exchange skills and ideas, build partnerships and expand networks.
The BCA Finhacks 2019 Roadshow in Jakarta features talkshows that invite speakers such as CEO of SOEDJA Muhammad Ghifari Ismail, CTO of Hara Imron Zuhri, CEO of Blocksphere Gilang Bhagaskara, and Supervisory Board of Blockchain Indonesia Association (ABI) Pandu Sastrowardoyo as a moderator.
The theme blockchain at the Finhacks 2019 was chosen based on its superiority, that not only does blockchain technology add value from the technical side such as security, transparency, and decentralization but also adds value from the business process and interaction side. Indonesia’s financial and banking industry can benefit from this technological advantage that allows an ease and convenient banking and financial solutions for the public.
“We invite IT developers, blockchain enthusiast, startups, students and professionals to participate in the event. Your brilliant ideas make a very important contribution to the development of financial and banking industry in Indonesia,” said Armand.
At Finhacks 2019, first stage is the registration stage, both for individuals and teams, that can be accessed via https://finhacks.id/registration. The second stage is idea submission, where participants submit blockchain ideas they wish to develop. There are three blockchain implementation to contest, namely interbank settlements and payments, identity management,and financial inclusion.
In the next stage, the Jury will select 10 participants from each category, from which a total of 30 participants will advance to the Prototype Development stage. At this stage, participants are required to make a blockchain app prototype based on the initial ideas they submit. The participants will receive guidance from blockchain mentors on a one-on-one mentoring session via webinar or video conference. The best 5 participants from each category will advance to the final, the Demo Day.
The Demo Day is the final stage of the series. A total of 15 finalists will compete to win the grand prize of Rp520 million. In the final, each finalist will present their innovative ideas and demonstrate the prototype they have created. In addition, finalists will be given a booth to showcase their work, which then will be assessed by the Jury and visitors.
