Jakarta, 12 April 2021 – Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Tourism villages that normally bring in hundreds of both domestic and foreign visitors, now experiencing a slump in numbers. Looking at this condition, PT Bank Central Asia (BCA), through the Bakti BCA program, collaborates with the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to hold the Desa Wisata Award 2021.
The event was virtually opened by President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja, Director of BCA Gregory Hendra Lembong, EVP of CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati, Director of Destination Management and Sustainable Tourism of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism Indra Ni Tua and Observer, Expert & Deputy of Destination Development 2020-2021 Hari Santosa Sungkari onZoom, Monday (12/4). Also attending to give an opening remarks was Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. The event was also followed by a number of representatives from tourism villages in Indonesia.
“BCA’s concern for the tourism sector in Indonesia has been a major factor behind the efforts to increase motivation among people who run businesses in tourism villages. Moreover, tourism villages occupy one of the top development priorities enacted by the government. One of BCA’s CSR pillars, Excellence Business Solutions, supports rural communities and community empowerment programs that have a large potential for tourism and cultural education. The Desa Wisata Award 2021 is held for all tourism villages in 33 Indonesian provinces, with selection and judging process period of 3 months,” said Jahja.
The Desa Wisata Award 2021 is set to gather tourism village participants from all Indonesian provinces. There are four categories to be contested, which are Nature-Based Tourism Village, Culture-Based Tourism Village, Creative-Based Tourism Village, and Digital-Based Tourism Village. Each province is expected to send four delegations from tourism villages. These contestants will later develop program materials both new business concept and continuous improvement program, which will be presented to a panel of judges for winner deliberation.
Jahja stated that this awarding program deliver benefits and is the first of its kind, providing a lesson for all village officials to adapt to new normal tourism protocols. Furthermore, appreciation for planning and development will be awarded to the winning Tourism Village.
Hari Sungkari said, “The role of the private sector for the tourism villages is that they are an integral component of the ecosystem and can be an executor who runs sustainable business operations. Eventually, tourism villages will turn into business units, therefore the private sector plays a vital role in such ecosystem.”
For additional information, through the Bakti BCA program, BCA has developed 12 assisted tourism villages scattered throughout the nation. They are Wirawisata Goa Pindul; Pentingsari Tourism Village; Wukirsari Wayang Village; Tamansari Tourism Village; Doesoen Kopi Sirap; Gemah Sumilir Batik Village; Bukit Peramun; Wisata Aik Rusa Berehun; Gunong Lumut; Traditional Settlement of Sijunjung; Nagari Silokek; Pucak Tinggan Tourism Village. Amid the pandemic, BCA has continuously provided assistance to its assisted villages through inspirational webinars.
“Hopefully, this event can attract participants from various villages and can be a vessel for tourism development in Indonesia. We all certainly hope that the event can stimulate national economic recovery through the tourism sector,” Jahja concluded.
