Encouraging the Youth to Preserve Indonesian Culture, BCA Supports Virtual Dance Competition and Traditional Fashion Competition

Jakarta, 7 November 2020 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) is committed to provide value added for customers and the public, including to preserve the Indonesian culture. The Bakti BCA, Sanggar Sampan Bujana Sentra, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Directorate Generate of Culture organize the Nusantara Creative Dance Competition and Traditional Fashion Competition. 

Interestingly, the entire process of both competitions and judging deliberation were conducted virtually. Participants are required to send a dance video with a duration of 5-7 minutes or wearing a traditional costumes/attires with a duration of 3 minutes. Despite it being a video, all competing participants must wear a face mask and face shield. The competitions were followed by more than 500 contestants for dancing and 300 contestants for fashion from all across Indonesia.

These activities were carried out from 15 October - 3 November 202 and motivated by the desire to continue to work during the pandemic, preserving Indonesian culture as well as commemorating the Youth Pledge by engaging in positive activities in the fields of culture and arts. Also supporting the program was Director of Sampan Bujana Sentra Uniek Sampan Hismanto, Executive Vice President of CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Directorate General of Culture, Director of Cultural Development and Utilization Restu Gunawan. 

The judges of the Nusantara Creative Dance Competition are Choreographer & Dancer of Sampan Bujana Sentra Uniek Sampan Hismanto, Lecturer of Dance Education of Jakarta Institute of Arts Melina Surya Dewi, Directorate of Cultural Development and Utilization of the Directorate General of Culture Nanang Riswandi. As for the Traditional Fashion Competition the judges are the Director of Look Inc Lulu Dewayanti Drachmann, Rotterdamse Mode Akademie in Nederland Uniek Sampan Hismanto and the Best Male Model & Male Presenter for the 2013 Traditional Costumes Parade, Denny Hartanto. “During the judging process, the judges did not meet each other. We remained in our homes, as did all the participants. But we are still working,” said Uniek Sampan Hismanto. 

The Nusantara Creative Dance Competition and the Traditional Fashion Competition are profound manifestations of BCA’s concern for cultural heritage preservation, which strengthens the nation’s character, especially among the youths. Accordingly, we hope that the younger generation will cherish our cultures more, encourage creativity, and continue to produce works during the pandemic.

Furthermore, BCA has also played an active role in supporting the preservation of Indonesian culture through numerous activities, including support for wayang preservation, training programs in wayang tourism villages and batik craftsmen communities, and so on,” said Inge Setiawati. 

“We hope that through these activities, Indonesian cultural wealth will continue to be preserved, especially by the future generation. We should be proud of our culture. Also, we hope that, through the implementation of this event, the Indonesian culture will continue to be known and prevail as the national treasure,” Restu Gunawan concluded.
