International Trade: Combo breakers

  • Indonesia’s trade balance recorded a USD 1.61 Bn deficit in May-26, marking the end of a 72-month long trade surplus streak.
  • Export performance slumped (-8.30% MoM, -5.73% YoY), attributing to the slowing in CPO exports (-26.85% MoM).
  • Imports declined (-1.59% MoM, +22.16% YoY) due to fewer working days and precious metal seasonality.
  • Capital goods and raw materials imports accelerated annually, in line with productive loans.
  • Looking ahead, exports face several headwinds; a more hawkish Fed, the B50 biodiesel transition, and uncertainty surrounding domestic policies.
