Beware of Fake Reward Point Scams!

You might be familiar with point reward programs offered by various phone and internet providers, allowing users to redeem points for attractive rewards. Unfortunately, scammers have been exploiting these programs to deceive bank customers. One common scam involves a fake provider company targeting BCA credit card users.

Reward Point Scam Operation

The scam typically begins with a phone call or message from someone claiming to represent a phone or internet provider. They will inform you that you have points that are at risk of being forfeited if not used immediately. The scammers will then send a link, asking victims to provide their credit card information in order to make purchases using the redeemed points.

Upon filling out the form, victims will receive details about the goods that can be redeemed using points. Although the amount stated in the redemption order is small, the actual transaction billed through the credit card becomes significantly larger.

Beware of Banking Data Requests

Please be cautious of fraudulent attempts to obtain your banking data, such as your credit card number, card expiration date, CVV/CVC, and OTP code. Scammers may use this information for unauthorized transactions on digital platforms!

Keep your personal banking data private and be wary of any requests for access and codes.

Safety Tips for Dealing with Reward Point Scams

If you receive a call or message from someone claiming to be from your phone provider’s Customer Service offering a reward point scheme, follow these steps:

  • Do not easily fall for tempting offers, especially if you are asked to open a link to provide personal information.
  • Double-check information from suspicious calls or messages, and always verify with the provider’s customer service/call center.
  • Never share confidential information such as credit card numbers, PIN, CVV/CVC, credit card validity period, and OTP codes with anyone through any means.
