Be cautious! There has been a recent surge in scams impersonating BCA’s company partners, such as online shops, online travel agents, and others.
Below is a summary of the three most common scam scenarios involving different well-known company partners:
Chronology of Case 1:
- The customer was contacted by an individual posing as Customer Service of online shop XXX (the perpetrator) and informed that the account was being accessed from another device.
- The customer was offered assistance to freeze the account by scanning a barcode provided by the perpetrator and proceeded to follow the instruction.
- The customer was then asked to provide credential data such as an ATM card number and OTP code, enabling the perpetrator to successfully register a OneKlik account linked to the customer’s bank account and carry out unauthorized transactions.
Chronology of Case 2:
- The customer purchased a ticket via online travel agent YYY and later intended to reschedule the flight.
- As the customer was unable to connect to the official Customer Service through the application, a manual search for the call center number was conducted via a search engine, leading to a fake number belonging to the perpetrator.
- Upon connecting, a link was provided and personal data such as KlikBCA user ID, password, and Appli response were entered, enabling the perpetrator to log in and drain the customer’s bank account.
Chronology of Case 3:
- The customer conducted a transaction via online shop ZZZ to top up electronic money; however, the balance was not credited, and although a complaint had been submitted, no refund was received.
- The call center number was searched via a search engine, which led to a fake number operated by the perpetrator.
- Without realizing it, the customer was guided to complete OneKlik registration through a video call and screen sharing on WhatsApp, resulting in unauthorized transactions.
Perpetrators generally target customers’ banking personal data to gain access to and compromise OneKlik or KlikBCA accounts.
Tips for Avoiding Scams
Below are several tips to help avoid scams like those described above:
- If contacted by someone claiming to be Customer Service of an online shop or online travel agent, do not trust the claim immediately. Verify the information through the company’s official website.
- Never search for a company’s official call center number or account via search engines. Always refer to the contact details provided on the company’s official website.
- Always keep personal banking information confidential. Do not share it with anyone, including parties claiming to be Customer Service representatives.
Keep in mind that the primary objective of scammers is to obtain banking personal data. Ensure that such information is not shared with any party.
If any suspicious activity is identified, immediately contact Halo BCA via the haloBCA app (toll-free) or by calling 1500888.
