Jakarta, 21 March 2024 - During the four-day event of BCA Expoversary 2024 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Bakti BCA collected 5,000 plastic bottle waste, equivalent to nearly 100 kilograms (kg). The collection of plastic bottle waste was carried out by providing two units of the Bakti BCA Reverse Vending Machine (RVM), a collaboration between Bakti BCA and Plasticpay.
The high enthusiasm of visitors for the presence of the two RVM units was evident from the long queue during BCA Expoversary 2024. Through the two RVM units, visitors were allowed to exchange plastic bottle waste into points that can be converted into rupiah. All plastic bottle waste collected will be recycled into eco-friendly fibers as a base material for environmentally friendly products.
In addition, throughout the BCA Expoversary 2024, Bakti BCA carried the campaign "10 Bottles for 1 Egg", which means every 10 plastic bottle waste collected in two RVM units will be used to support the release of 1 sea turtle. With 5,000 plastic bottle waste collected, Bakti BCA is committed to supporting the release of 500 sea turtles.
Bakti BCA has supported sea turtle conservation in Indonesia's oceans for a long time, in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). From 2015-2023, BCA supported the release of more than 24,000 sea turtles, the adoption and relocation of 400 sea turtle nests, and organized several sea turtle conservation education programs for the community.
BCA’s EVP of Corporate Communication and Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn said, "We are very grateful to see the positive response and enthusiasm shown by BCA Expoversary visitors in taking part in this environmental conservation effort. Besides encouraging public awareness to contribute to plastic bottle waste recycling efforts at this BCA Expo, Bakti BCA also campaigned for sea turtle conservation. Simultaneously, we want to encourage initiatives to reduce plastic waste, which is a threat to the environment, along with the conservation of sea turtles, which have an important role in maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem."
Since 2016, Bakti BCA has also supported BSTF in creating the "Intan Box", a box that serves as a turtle egg incubator. With this technology, turtle eggs are better protected from predators, as well as being able to regulate the gender of sea turtles.
