Boosting MSME Business, BCA Facilitates Issuance of 1,000 Halal Certificates in Various Regions

Mataram, 30 January 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) reaffirms its dedication to support halal economic development in Indonesia. As part of this commitment, BCA recently facilitated the “Issuance of 475 halal certificates to 364 MSMEs in West Nusa Tenggara.” The event took place at Graha Bakti Praja, the West Nusa Tenggara Governor's Office in Lombok.

BCA facilitates halal certification for MSMEs to support the development and improvement of the quality of their products. This initiative aims to enable more businesses to scale up, thereby positively impacting the economy of both the community and the country as a whole.

Based on the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs RI survey, businesses experienced an average turnover increase of 8.5% upon acquiring a halal certificate. The increasing demand for halal-certified products underscores their significance among consumers. In response, BCA is committed to supporting the facilitation of the issuance of more than 1,000 halal certificates for MSMEs across regions.

BCA Director John Kosasih explained, “As of January 2024, BCA has facilitated the issuance of a total of 967 halal certificates for MSMEs. Currently, there are tens of halal certificates for MSMEs being facilitated by BCA that are still in the issuance process. These certificates are estimated to be issued in the near future. We are grateful to have achieved the estimated number of certificate issuance facilitations.”

A total of 967 halal certificates that have been issued are spread across various regions, including:

  • 475 halal certificates in Lombok,
  • 133 in Solo and Yogyakarta,
  • 103 in Banjarmasin,
  • 71 in Tulungagung and Surabaya,
  • 47 in Makassar,
  • 45 in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta area),
  • 41 in Tasikmalaya,
  • 32 in Lampung, and
  • 20 in Padang.

The issuance of halal certificates to MSMEs facilitated by BCA will continue to increase. BCA is extending opportunities for MSMEs in additional regions to avail themselves of this program, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises across Indonesia.

In 2023, BCA achieved a 13.4% YoY growth in SME loans disbursement, totaling Rp116.0 trillion. Alongside financing support, BCA regularly conducts training sessions and seminars for MSMEs. Moving into 2024, BCA remains dedicated to the ongoing facilitation of halal certification for MSMEs.

“Halal certification has become an essential requirement for businesses in Indonesia due to the country’s significant Muslim population and government regulations mandating all food, beverage products, and related services to obtain halal certification by 17 October 2024. We anticipate that this initiative will contribute to the growth of MSMEs in Indonesia,” stated John Kosasih.

Moreover, in an effort to increase the capacity of MSMEs to face the global market, BCA has conducted export training sessions in Yogyakarta and Semarang, with a total participation of 60 MSMEs. Among these, four MSMEs are from two Bakti BCA’s assisted tourism villages: Kampoeng Batik Gemah Sumilir and Doesoen Kopi Sirap. BCA also facilitated the participation of 10 selected MSMEs in the Trade Expo Indonesia held by the Ministry of Trade in 2023, aiming to expand their international market reach.
