Presenting Sumba Tradition as a Village Attraction, Tebara Tourism Village Named as Nominee for Best Tourism Village in Indonesia


Waikabubak, August 14, 2023 - Tebara Tourism Village has been named among the 75 nominees for the Best Tourism Village in Indonesia at the Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI) 2023 awards, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenparekraf RI). Situated in West Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, the village's traditional customs set Tebara Village apart from other nominees, making it an additional tourist attraction.

For your information, Tebara Tourism Village is among the Bakti BCA village partners. After competing with 4,573 other tourism villages, Tebara Tourism Village has become one of the nominees for the ADWI Best Tourism Village 2023. The ADWI 2023 Jury Panel conducted an on-site assessment of Tebara Tourism Village on August 12, 2023

Tourism & Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno also visited the location. East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, West Sumba Regent Yohanis Dade, Head of BCA KCU Kupang Farida Siregar, Vice President of CSR BCA Nona Faletta, Head of Tebara Village Marthen Ragowino Bira, and officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government also joined the trip.

We believe this achievement will add value to the community of West Sumba Regency, especially to the residents of Tebara Tourism Village. We also appreciate the unwavering support from the local administration and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. I see the ADWI program as a positive initiative to create momentum for the revival of tourism and the creative economy in Indonesia,” stated Farida Siregar, Head of BCA KCU Kupang.

Tebara Tourism Village holds significant tourism potential, with its traditional and cultural attractions serving as the main highlights. Travelers can relish artistic experiences, including the Woleka Dance performance, Wulla Poddu ritual, Pajurra, Pasola, and Kataga / Kodola. In addition to witnessing the captivating dances and rituals, travelers can also immerse themselves in the beauty of Sumba's traditional houses.

Upon witnessing the village’s arts and culture, travelers can also indulge  Sumba’s culinary delights, such as Roó Luá or pounded sweet potato leaves, Rowe Kariwa and Bokasawu Toro, Kapuú Patunnu, Kadodu Watara, all while sipping Lolina coffee made from the coffee beans grown in the Loli hill, West Sumba.

In addition to its cultural heritage, Tebara Tourism Village also boasts a captivating natural landscape. Here, travelers can enjoy the lush rice fields, the crystal-clear Lake Waikuiri, the beauty of Lapopu Waterfall, and the heartwarming tranquility of Nihiwatu Beach.

The ADWI 2023 is an annual award organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. Out of a total of 7,275 village tourism sites in Indonesia (according to data provided by the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration), 4,573 villages have been selected to participate in the ADWI 2023 event. The ADWI 2023 activities have progressed through various curation stages by the jury panel. The curation process began by selecting the top 500 village tourism sites, which were subsequently narrowed down to the top 300, culminating in the final selection of the top 75 village tourism sites.
