BCA Continues to Encourage MSMEs to Enter the Export Market

Jakarta, 10 May 2021 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to encourage the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) segment to develop global competitiveness and make a greater contribution to the exports. In order to advance to the export market, it is important for MSME businesses to build innovative products and effective global marketing strategies so that their products can penetrate the global market. This can be realized if MSMEs’ actors continues to receive trainings and education that give them the ability to adapt to global demand.

As part of the MSME Fest, a webinar on export readiness is expected to provide MSMEs with important insights and assistance to be ready to go global. On Thursday (6/5), BCA held a webinar called “Creative Innovation – MSME Entry Strategies in the Export Market,” featuring keynote speakers such as Director General of National Export Development (PEN) of the Trade Ministry Didi Sumedi and Secretary of Director General of Foreign Trade of the Trade Ministry Johni Martha. Also attending the webinar was President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja, Director of BCA Rudy Susanto, Director of BCA John Kosasih*, Senior EVP of International Banking Branko Windoe, EVP of International Banking Fanny Surjadi, and EVP of Commercial Business and SMEs Freddy Iman.

Jahja said that Indonesia has a variety of unique products, with strong history for markets. These unique products are mostly developed by MSMEs throughout the nation. However, Indonesian MSME products haven’t performed well in the global market due to its lack of global competitiveness. This was reflected in the MSMEs’ contribution to national exports that is not significant and can be improved.

“There are about 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia, offering a wide variety of products. We want MSMEs in Indonesia to grow and thrive, and subsequently make a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy. For this reason, we continue to provide a forum in which MSMEs receive lessons and trainings as well as to connect them to global market players. With this support, we hope that Indonesian MSMEs improve and successfully expand the market share of their products globally,” said Jahja.

As part of the national financial system, BCA continues to encourage MSME to grow faster, be competitive, and recover from their losses. In line with the Indonesian government’s vision, BCA initiated the Bangga Lokal campaign in conjunction with the national movement Bangga Buatan Indonesia, and held the BCA UMKM Fest, a virtual expo followed by thousands of MSME businesses with more than 18.000 signature products from all across the archipelago.

The Business Matching session is part of the MSME Fest activities held from 16 April until 8 May 2021. The virtual session is a collaboration between BCA and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, the International Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), and Correspondent Bank that presents more than 100 potential buyers from 30 countries across five continents.

As of Friday (06/05), there were 37 MSME players who participated in 64 business matching sessions with 94 foreign buyers, 50 sessions of which were a match and 25 of them had proceed to send product samples to potential buyers, including to the United States, Netherlands, Brazil, France, Finland, and Malaysia.

“BCA fully supports the role of MSMEs to bolster the Indonesian economy. Due to limited mobility, the program is conducted online. However, the program serves as a tangible gesture in the pursuit of evoking motivation and optimism among MSME businesses in Indonesia as well as accelerating SDGs realization,” concluded Jahja.
